ORD area, Alinea DO anyone

Hello all, I have been wanting to try the Alinea, but have never yet found the "right" occasion for it. I figure there are more out there with this view, so what the heck, if anyone is game for this, let me know maybe can get the ball rolling

How about some more details? What is Alinea and what's interesting about it?

It's a restaurant.
Good for foodies, not good for cheapskates.

Alinea--for those who are interested.

Alinea is supposed to be the best restaurant in the United States right now.

I was there last fall. It was $185/person prix fixe, but I see that it is now $195/person prix fixe. There are no other menu options, just the prix fixe only.

I have a video of my experience here, which starts at 4:06 and goes to 5:00.

It is probably the most unique fine dining experience you will ever have in your life.

Prepare to spend even more money if you want wine. It is definitely not a place to go if you are being frugal this day.

Interesting you mention your video, considering how there has been some focus on this exact subject.

Simply put it is described exactly as above, it is michelin 3 star, best restaurant in Chicago possibly USA. It would be about $150 a person (other friends are too cheap to do this) One does have to put in reservations a bit ahead, so I am putting out a feller if any are interested. If people show interest, I will start coordinating and setting a date for a table. But I am dead serious about doing this, so if anyone have been wanting to go there, I am all game to get this going.

$195/person, not $150/person

It's now $195/person. $150/person would be a bargain. Check the Alinea website.

I think this lets me out:)

Mr 999 and I went back in 2006 - they had three different tasting menu options then. It is definitely in the top 10 meals for us ( we're big time foodies and we've been to many top restaurants)

We would love to return there but not sure we'd make a trip just for this, it would have to be an MR or weekend occasion, or some other coinciding event...

As long as you find a night that fits my schedule I am in. And i know of at least 1 other friend who would be as well.

Yes, FWIW, this poll had Alinea as its #6 restaurant in the world, up 1 spot from last year.

I ate there in January & loved it. I'm eager to go back, but probably wouldn't be able to swing it until late summer at the earliest.

Just to put a little more detail into the prices:
With tax & tip, drinking water, expect to pay about $250 per person ($195 + ~10% tax + 20% tip)

With the tax, tip & the wine pairing, expect to pay about $420 ($195 + ~$120 for pairings + ~10% tax + 20% tip)

A wine list is also available. I don't know if they had any by-the-glass options.
