NYC MidSummer Night's Dinner Mini-Do Aug 25th

As I've been pretty much stuck at work the last month or so, I haven't really been able to be on FT much. Now that I've earned my "freedom" a bit, Iwant to get back into the swing of things.

Here in NYC, Restaurant Week has been extended till Labor Day Weekend and I think it's the perfect opportunity to go to one of the better restaurants in the City for $35 prix fixe. So in the spirit of the dog days of August (and Shakespear of course) , I present the MidSummer Night's Dinner Mini Do

August 25Th
Time: 7pm
Location:

Delmonico's
56 Beaver Street
New York, NY 10004
212-509-1144

In a city filled with great steakhouses, this is one of the better ones. Billed as one of the originators, Past meets the present as we take it over for a night of great food and our usual chatter of miles, points, etc.

Early Bar meet will be at 6pm at:

Ulysess Folk House
95 Pearl Street
212-482-0400

We will be meeting in the outside bar area on Stone Street.

Sounds good to me.

How about suggesting some restaurant options participating in the restaurant week dinner special?

El_Chiflero Aug 11, 2010 1:52 pm

I'll go ahead and write up a list...Should be up by tonight :D

El_Chiflero Aug 12, 2010 6:24 am

Deleted!

And and the required reference to alcohol: Jameson...mmmmmmmm...Jameson...

debua1k Aug 16, 2010 9:03 am

Put me down as a probably! I am fine with wherever you choose, but I do prefer someplace that is on the quiet side so that I can hear the discussion!

secretsea18 Aug 16, 2010 1:12 pm

El Chif,

Some of the places you put are not for dinner, just lunch, such as Blue Water Grill. Yummy food, but noisy inside.

How about starting with either specific resto, or a neighborhood. I would actually suggest the Meatpacking area or Union Square/ Flatiron region.

Any other suggestions???

El_Chiflero Aug 17, 2010 6:30 am

The following are the ones I have narrowed it down to:

Delmonico's
North Square
Asia De Cuba
The Palm- Tribeca
Megu (Tribeca)

Let me know what you guys think.

xanthuos Aug 17, 2010 9:36 am

I'd be interested in joining as well.

They all sound great to me! I am leaning towards the Steakhouses or Megu (although I don't understand the menu for North Square).

Geekygal16 Aug 17, 2010 9:12 pm

This sounds great. I'd like to join.

SkiAdcock Aug 17, 2010 9:31 pm

I'm thinking you should pick a place & update your first post. Just sayin...

Have a great time everyone! Sorry I can't be there.

Cheers.

North Square has been the site of 2 FT events this year. It truly is a great location and one I'm guessing will be used again quite soon. Update with the actual location to be performed soon.

debua1k Aug 18, 2010 6:46 am

just checked out the menus. They all sound fabulous, but having never been to delmonicos, would love that one!

sbm12 Aug 18, 2010 6:56 am

Color me tentative. Gotta see if I'm out of town for work next week or not.

violist Aug 18, 2010 7:44 am

Not possible for me, sadly.

FT Lurker Aug 18, 2010 9:09 am

I probably won't be able to make dinner, but would love to meet up for drinks afterward.

mnmag Aug 18, 2010 10:20 am

Oooh! This sounds sooo tempting!:D Put me down as a 'maybe' & I will work on figuring out how to get my son to agree to taking care of himself for the night!;)

IADdutch Aug 18, 2010 4:47 pm

If a 2x FT location, it must be good. However, I still do not understand the Restaurant Week menu list at North Square, do you? Does everyone get everything selected, or what?

Not sure as we had a prix fixe outside of restaurant week.

It's always a pleasure to have you around. And I'm sure we'll keep the bars busy after dinner :D

El_Chiflero Aug 21, 2010 11:58 am

Update: I have inquired about getting a private room for our party. Stay tuned. Apparently there is a party of 100 coming on Wednesday as well so that are trying to see if they can work something out.

Would love to join and meet everyone. However, dinner for me probably not a good idea since i am a Herbivores lol. But drinks would be definitely doable, if the place can be disclosed and does not require the use of ITA (ok that was a bit geeky)

I'm guessing that we won't be able to get a private room since only ~12 people is usually not enough to warrant it...especially when most of us will probably cheap out and get the RW menu (I know I am :))! But I am looking forward to meeting a number of FTers I haven't met before.

Also, I have received word from Catman that he would like to join as well. I'm guessing he'll post in this thread sometime tomorrow to confirm.

miles4CDG Aug 24, 2010 6:18 am

I'm in. El_Chiflero, thanks for putting this together.
