Glad I booked the Marriott when I did, as pricing as gone up. I'm also holding an inexpensive CY Flora ressie ($93.72US/night@ current exchange rate; includes breakfast), but think I'll stick w/ Marriott. If someone wants the CY, we can talk to Marriott about switching name on reservation.

Edited to add: just realized the rate is a Marriott elite rate, so if someone wants to take it over they'd need to have status w/ Marriott. I thought it was the AAA rate, but that's the rate I'm holding at the Marriott.

Edited to add again: There is a LPR (local promotion rate) @ CY Flora that is $102.51US/night@ current exchange rate) that also includes breakfast. You don't have to be elite w/ Marriott. It's a publicly available rate. It's listed as Malev promotion. No idea who or what Malev is, but checking rate rules standard stuff - 6pm DOA cancel.

Cheers.

OT Answer: Malev Hungarian Airlines (MA) are one of the few One World airlines in Europe (along with BA, IB, and AY). They also offer one of the few paths to status matches into One World, and will even match other OW carriers. Their programme is awful on regular status earning and retention, and suffers from hard expiry of all miles regardless of status.

I leave home in 2 days. What are y'all packing? I assume this is a casual weekend with no dress-up clothes necessary. Should we expect temps < 70F/20C with cool evenings?

serfty May 15, 2011 11:08 pm

A quick google ...

http://www.pragueexperience.com/info...nformation.asp

Clothes to wear: As with many European cities, the Prague weather is highly changeable all year round. Even in the summer bring a warm jumper and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of a cold spell. Conversely, in warm in the spring, summer and autumn, cool shorts, skirts and dresses can be very welcome. Sunscreen, sunglasses and hats can also be important.
http://weather.yahoo.com/climo/EZXX0...l?woeid=796597

June 69.0 °F 51.0 °F 2.70 in

Although, maybe some advise from those on the ground would be more useful.

adventureadam May 16, 2011 8:58 am

Could be blazing hot, could be quite cool. Layers :)

I checked the weather just like you.... it looks like the weather will be on the 'cool' side (low to mid 70's as the high and mid-50's as the low) Prague and Istanbul. I am packing leggings (long and short ones) and layers - one pair of low boots, some flats, and maybe one pair of trainers (tennis shoes). Instead of my waterproof jacket, will make do with a tiny umbrella. Trying to get it all in a 20" bag and a small backpack for Kindle, etc.

iris30 May 17, 2011 9:14 pm

I've been following this thread for several months with the intention of attending - well I am now booked and will be there! I'm flying into Berlin and staying a few days then taking the train to Dresden for a few days and then heading to Prague for the DO. I'll be staying at the Hilton Prague.

So will there be registration and fees payable up front for the DO?

BOXO,Pat98339,miffSC,t_h_s, I am sorry that +1 and I are not going to join you guys at this wonderful DO, enjoy the DO and safe travel.

Take lots of pictures for us.

SkiAdcock May 21, 2011 10:22 am

BTW - I have a 9am arrival on Friday & a 6:30pm departure on Sun. If anyone is arriving/departing around those times, maybe we can share taxi or take bus service to/from together, and on the outbound hang out at the *Alliance lounge.

Cheers.

the_happiness_store May 21, 2011 12:16 pm

Is it ok for my son and me to attend? Does anyone have hotel deals??!!

Read the thread :p People have been posting hotel deals throughout. Are you limited to which chain?

Cheers.

Expedia has rates as low as $25 per night (for a two-star hotel). The problem is that unless you know Prague (which I don't) you have no idea of what kind of an area it is in.

I can't believe you don't have your page view set to max posts (which I think is 40/page), which brings down significantly the # of pages to look through. :p

BTW - besides hotel there's some good info in the pages provided by adventureadam.

Also in the last couple of pages, there have been hotel discounts listed for Marriott, PC, and Hilton I believe. Courtyard Flora is about $100/night w/ brekkie for 2, for example.

Hotel deals.... the Hilton is having its Great Getaways (or something like that) promotion which is bringing costs down considerably at a lot of their properties.

I will be staying at the ICH on one paid night and the other two nights on points. Staying at the HI Airport for Monday and Tuesday nights. Flying home on Wednesday.

No, but I did send him a pm today to see what is what.... at any rate, there obviously is still going to be a big convergence on Prague from the 10th to the 13th :)

Even if the worst situation were to arise (and I very much doubt it will) and servus were simply to disappear from FT I would not be at all unhappy about visiting Prague.

It is a city I have long wanted to see. In fact, I started a thread about it before this Do was thought of. I am spending an entire week in the city and the fact that for part of the time, even if there is no Do, there will be FTers there is simply icing on the cake.

Of course, in real life, it would not work out that there is no Do. One of us would simply suggest a place and time for all of us to meet on the 10th, such as a bar in the Hilton Prague, and together we would figure out when to get a boat tour, where to have dinner, etc.

There are 19 days to servus birthday, looking forward to it. :D

I haven't heard from him either, but maybe he is studying for final exams.

With 19 other flyertalkers around I am sure we will find plenty to do, flyertalkers are good travelers and usually will find something to entertain themselves.

boxo and I go way back. We have been to several DOs together and visit when in each other's neighborhood.

SkiAdcock May 22, 2011 7:56 am

My guess is that servus will post before the Do starts. We're still 3 weeks out. If not, I have total confidence that us FTers can pick a meeting place, organize a castle tour or river cruise, find a restaurant/bar, etc.

Cheers.

Knowing boxo, I'm rather hesitant to ask... so I'll just announce that I'm joining the fun!

Looking forward to my first visit to Prague, seeing many friends again and meeting the others. And I guess Dovster will be there also. ;)

I wonder if it is too late for me to change my itinerary and visit Albania instead. :p

SkiAdcock May 23, 2011 12:16 pm

Since servus hasn't updated in a while, just wondered if some of the maybes had switched to yeses, and if hotel info was accurate. I'm still trying to decide between Marriott & CY Flora, but leaning towards Marriott since it seems to be more centrally located.

Finally able to clear the calendar and confirm my attendance. Taking the roundabout way to PRG: CMH-YYZ-IAD-FRA-PRG on an award ticket no doubt  Would have been a somewhat decent mileage run.

Now gotta work on da hotel, but OMG the weak dollar is creating some very interesting hotel rates for da Yanks right now  Will most likely take residence at the Sheraton and hope for the Buck to stage a rally in the next few weeks. Plan to join the Bday celebration on Friday, and as always, will be good connecting with old friends and meeting new ones.
