FT doesn't have a newbies corner as such, but take a look in the freuqnt flyer program forums for airlines serving where you live, the Mileage Run Deals forum for 'deals' to help get you status or regular miles faster, plus the special interest destination, travel, 'traveler' and other forums here.
CommunityBuzz is largely for sharing details of get togethers, known here as Dos.
Highly recommended.
There's a wealth of knowledge, info and great company here, whatever your frequent flyer fancy.
