Unable to Modify Dates for Reservation Booked with Points
 

I have a week-long reservation for Comfort Hotel Tokyo Kanda for the 25th, but I need to check in on the 26th. I booked with points through Choice Privileges, but it looks like I'm unable to modify the dates because the hotel is fully booked. Should I cancel the reservation and rebook? I'm worried that the room won't get put back into the inventory for points bookings.

You can try calling and seeing whether a human representative can help you knock off the first day of the reservation, but it’s possible you might just be stuck. Whether a cancelled reservation goes back into points inventory or not is pretty inconsistent from program to program. If you’re booking something you suspect might be a competitive reservation and you think there’s risk of changes, it’s generally advised to book individual days; as long as there’s no bulk pricing for a longer stay, there’s no downside beyond a little extra time booking.

Calling in did the trick. They were able to make the change instantly.
