Group Visa Application Process

Greetings FTer's!

I am in need of a bit of assistance, please. Here's a bit of the back story...

I am a co-organizer for a travel group. I planned a trip to China for October using a well known tour group. As it stands, there are 12 people going including myself. Everyone has been made aware of the Visa requirements. I plan to go the Houston consulate as the "acting agent" in September to get the Visas. After reading the information within this forum, and on the Consulate website, I realize this could be problematic.

The tour company has a service that is an additional $60. Would it be best to direct everyone to use this service? If someone declines the service and I go as the "acting agent", what are the chances that someone's application could be rejected? What happens then?

I'm starting to wonder if I am in over my head.

I welcome any suggestions you may have in regards to this current situation. Thank you!!

Best,

Ambition

For yourself and the members of the group that are covered by Houston, go for it, but ask for dl copies. Tell the rest to fend for themselves.

Sounds simple enough!! Will do! Thanks, Moondog!

I have tried searching and either didn't use the proper terms or it's not here....Bit of a stupid question and I apologize! Looks like I'll be going to Shanghai in September and since you all were so helpful when I prepared for my first trip to China in 2011, I"m back for more advice. This time, I'm trying to get my husband to come with me, which means I would be on a business visa (I'll get multiple entry, just in case, because I wasn't expecting this trip so who knows what my boss could decide...) and my husband would be on a tourist visa. Is this a problem at immigration? I've never traveled with someone on a different visa type and just want to make sure there wouldn't be any questions. Thanks!

Not a problem at all but I there's really no reason for you to go to the window together.

Thank you for the reassurance!
(immigration together is a habit I fear would be hard to break after all these years:D)

It's not like the US with combined customs forms. There's no need to be together--and if you're not they wouldn't even know you're on different visas.

I was thinking the same thing. Apart from a parent traveling with a small child, I've never even seen two people approach the window together.

Separate it is;) I was 3/4 asleep on my first/last/only so far trip to China so did not remember what forms I had filled out to present upon arrival^

Q on list of countries visited, guest name on hotel booking

We hold HKSAR passports and travel with it whenever we could as this saves the pages of our US passports. Because of that, most entry/exit stamps are on the HKSAR instead of the US passports.

Q1. I gather when I fill out the application form, I should check the stamps on the US passports and only list those countries that have stamps on it to avoid unnecessary issues, right?

On hotel bookings, I have booked the first 5 days hotel already in my own HHonors account and only my name is on it but guests are 2 adults. Do I need to rebook it to have my husband's name also show on the reservation? I am not even sure HHonors award booking has the ability to show additional guest's name. In the case there is no more award availability, not sure if the reservation could add additional guest's name on it without touching the reservation...

Worse comes to worst, can make fully cancelable booking with both guests names on it just for the Visa application purpose. Correct?

I applied for my most recent PRC visa last fall, and didn't mention any other countries on the application for (as I never have in the past), all was well. I do recall some chatter about this topic here, now that you bring it up, but this certainly isn't the type of detail I would lose any sleep over. VERY little time is spent reviewing most applications; in fact, the reason they ask for photo copies of previous visas that are already in your passport is because they don't want to be troubled with thumbing through your passport.

Regarding your passport choice, if you're applying in the US, you might run into some push back when trying to use the HK passports, so I would check to see if this is currently permitted (probably), and if so, what sort of additional documentation is required (if any).

We always do, no problem. She's a native speaker, if they do want to ask something that makes it easier.

We will use our US passports for the Chinese Visa. HKSAR is used whenever it does not need Visa to entry, especially when a Visa is needed for US Citizens - Russia, Brazil, Agentine, even indonesia are great to use HKSAR.

Has anyone used this agency recently? Seems this one of the most-mentioned name on this thread.

How long it take for them to answer email?
