I'm pretty sure that most guys in China go to the massage expecting 'full-service'....

I remember a time in the HI Hangzhou when there were two nice young girls who were about to give two old Russians massages. They were very excited and clearly thought they were going to get a 'massage' from an 18 year-old girl. Suddenly, the girls ran out of the room complaining to the manager in the local dialect, and the Russians were swearing in Russian. It was funny, but I think there was a bit of confusion.

I almost think that the term 'legitimate' should be used to describe the 'other' kind of massage. Especially considering that probably more than 50% of the establishments will offer those services at a price.

That's what most outsiders think about the proliferation of foot massage places in San Gabriel Valley. Which is 100% incorrect.

I do not feel like this inaccurate at all. I didn't say that most FOREIGNERS go to the massage for that

And I'd like to add that the last time I went to a massage, the girl did something to my butt that I didn't like and I got up and walked out. It wasn't what I paid for. I can speak Chinese and there was no miscommunication - I just went to the wrong place. I'm not one to pay $100+ for a massage, and I absolutely won't get a massage at a place like the Grand Hyatt, nor where I think it's catering to foreigners and thus is overpriced. This experience happened in Jinan!! Yes Jinan, a city where none of you live and where there are 10 foreigners. I was bored walking around, saw a sign for a very reasonably priced massage (that looked somewhat professional), and that's how it happened. If I'm going to get a massage in Xintiandi, no one will do that to me, ever. Maybe I'm cheap on this - and maybe why I've had bad experiences with them - but please don't accuse me of making stuff up.

I've had foot massages all over China, as well as "regular" (non-sexual) massages. I've never been offered "special services," nor did I see anything that suggested others were being offered these services (with the exception of one single "club"-like entity in Beijing). In all my years of regular visits to China, I've met no hostility, never been threatened, never been treated with suspicion, and, more to the point, never heard of anyone having the experiences that you describe as common. I don't know whether your time in China is a little or a lot but, if this is what you routinely experience, you may want to consider whether you are the cause of the problem, rather than the country.

Ok, ok, i don't want to start a fight...I'm young, and that's probably why I've had a few bad experiences.....I also have a few local stories involving young Chinese guys going there for a good night - but I'm not going to tell these stories because they will get me banned for good....

Maybe I'm wrong - probably - since I do trust Moondog's expertise on things, but they do exist, and if you have no clue what you are doing, stick to the expat places. I think I just haven't heard any good stories coming out of these places and that's why I'm thinking this way....maybe because no one really comments on a good massage, but definitely will make a comment if it's bad.

Moondog - I wish I could get to BJ, but I am tied down to a (good) job here for the next year at least. Sadly, I think I've been to BJ maybe 5 times in my life, even though I've been to Jinan 10 times this year at least.

I like Jinan... & usually stay at the Sheraton there in the Olympic park. But in October i will attend the week long 8th Beer & Beverage Tecnology conference hosted by the Shandong University. it's at the 4 star Huangtai hotel. ( quoted me a 'single' suite at only 408 rmb...)

So we may double the foreigner %'s, maybe triple if you count the QD germans.

BTW, Jinan is only an hour from BJ by HSR, but from BJ south rail station !
