Waiting time immigration shanghai

Hi,

hopefully somebody can help.
Through flight time changes i have only 2 1/2 hours coming from Bangkok time to get my luggage, do immigration and check in my flight to tokio.
is this possible to do?
does anybody know?
probably immigartion is the longest to wait for...
thanks in advance for answering!

elke kuhlen, who saved a lot of money to do this trip:confused:

Times are going to vary, but when I arrived in April I waited about 5 minutes to be processed. I was towards the middle getting off our flight around 2p. It appeared that there was maybe only one flight getting in around the same time, although perhaps flights 15 minutes before had already passed through the lines. Had to wait a few minutes more for bags.

(US passport, FWIW).

I've never done an international connection at PVG, but is it really necessary to go through immigration? What airlines are you connecting to?

Regardless, as previously mentioned, it depends on what time of day you're arriving - I've waited between 10 seconds and 30 minutes and very seldom longer than that.
Emigrating can sometimes be a pain, but there's a line for tight connections; if not, ask one of the staff to help you cut the line.

Overall, 2.5h is nothing to worry about.

Since the PuDong airport opened I don't think I've spent more than 10 minutes in the immigration line.

thanks so much for all your help. we coming in with china eastern airlines from bangkok at 7am (if everything is on time) and going out with delta at 9.45am.
we boked the flights totally seperately. would be perfect if we wouldnīt have to do immigration, would save one visaentry, but i think itīs not working that way;)
so hopefully we can make it on time!

thanks again

elke

1) You won't need a visa for those 2.5 hrs, but are eligible for visa-free transfer, since your stay is under 24/48 hours. (Assumption: Your nationality is eligible for this, i guessed from your name you were Dutch or German... ;))

2) There is the chance that China Eastern (MU) can check your bags through to Tokyo on DL. I doubt they can give you the boarding pass for DL, but you probably could get that at the transfer desk in Shanghai (without going thru immigration) or even online. All you would have to do is show the MU agent in BKK your DL ticket (and hope he knows how to do it).
Maybe someone knows whether MU and DL already interline? MU is about to join Skyteam...

Just out of curiosity, how much money did you save by doing this v. nonstop?

Oh, that is true. They probably have a transit-passengers passageway that would allow you to avoid immigration altogether.

The only trick is if you can get them to check your bag through. You should be able to get your bp, etc. without going through immigration.

I just landed at PVG T2 on a BA flight and transited through to T1 for a Korean Airlines flight. I am on a British passport with no visa. Very polite and efficient immigration - collected bags - 10 minute walk across to T1, check in and off to departure gate. Whole process gate to gate took 1 hour but I was not hurrying.... you could do it in about 30 minutes.

Make sure you have a copy of your electronic ticket - don't follow signs to transfers, you need to go through immigration. The regular immigration officer needed a supervisor to endorse my passport, it was all done very efficiently.

I go through <15min nine out of ten times. Longest wait was maybe half an hour.

Wait time T2 at 15:30

Arriving on SQ830 at 3:30 in the afternoon, just wondering as to how long I should expect to wait to clear immigration. I'm considering paying for a meet and greet service to whiz me through immigration and customs, worth the while?

Thanks! :D

If you check you my data from the thread I started yesterday, you'll note that I cleared border control in 9 minutes and was out <6 minutes later.

While I was traveling in F (head start down the hallway + priority baggage tag), I could have won the race from as far back as row 45. And, I assume that 90% of us get priority baggage tags.
