This is totally repulsive and un-American. Is there anybody out there who actually supports this?

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Most people will be coded green and sail through. But up to 8 percent of passengers who board the nation's 26,000 daily flights will be coded "yellow" and will undergo additional screening at the checkpoint, according to people familiar with the program. An estimated 1 to 2 percent will be labeled "red" and will be prohibited from boarding. These passengers also will face police questioning and may be arrested. </font>
Let's see: 26,000 flights per day. An average of 100 passengers per flight, that's 26,000 to 52,000 people denied boarding on a daily basis and risking being arrested.

Has any of the TSA morons ever sat down and done the math? But, according to the article:

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">The system "will provide protections for the flying public," said TSA spokesman Brian Turmail. "Not only should we keep passengers from sitting next to a terrorist, we should keep them from sitting next to wanted ax murderers." </font>
Isn't that comforting

Liar!

More likely it will prevent people with unpaid parking tickets from flying.

Up yours, Admiral Loy!!!

Adm Loy can rot in hell.

Anyone who ever fought for this country's freedoms should not be impressed with our current path.

I have to say that's even more idiotic than the CAPPS system.

I hope they install rotating green, yellow and red lights to make it really dramatic. Klaxons, too

This program (CAPPPS II) is beyond repulsive. Loy and the scumbags at the TSA which support this can go rot in h3ll.. "E-Papers Please, welcome to The Fatherland"

color codes? Jay Leno asked "Didn't Denny's get into big trouble over that?"

hmmmm IIRC Logan's Run divvied people up into color code, no?

"Under the new program, the airline will send information about everyone who books a flight to the TSA, including full name, home address, home telephone number, date of birth and travel itinerary. If the computer system identifies a threat, the TSA will notify federal or local law enforcement authorities."

I can't wait for a SWAT team to be alerted to a stinkin' Red trying to board a flight because she did a web check-in only to have the Red be a 6 year old!

Hey, I'm from the government and I'm here to help you...

I know you don't want terrorists on your plane.

So we need to arrest this person here who is wanted by the local sheriff for failing to pay a fine for running a red light. Of course, he claims to have paid it, canceled check and all, but you all know how people always lie about things when they arfe questioned by the PO'lice.

If you don't believe me, just watch COPS and you will see what I mean.

Now, don't you feel safer?

You have no idea how many of these arrests we are making with new color coded system. Why, we have had to triple our staff here at the airport just to be able to arrest all of these lawbreaking terrorists...

Last I checked, it wasn't in the TSA's job jar to catch axe murderers. The only thing they are authorized by law to do is to confiscate the axe at the checkpoint, if they manage to find it.

ummm TSA is supposed to keep the flying public safe.

So, if someone with a violent criminal past got on a plane and snapped, you would all be ok with that, because TSA only job is to make sure he didnt get on with a knife or axe?

Personally, I don't think that is of any concern to the TSA. If a person was convicted of a violent crime in the past and is flying, he/she has already paid their dues to society through jail, prison, fines, etc.

As long as the individual is not on probation of some type and/or prohibited to travel by the court system, they have a right to travel freely within the United States like anyone else without harassment as far as I'm concerned.

Is it possible they could snap? Sure, but it's just as possible anyone else could snap such as a passenger drinking too much or a passenger who is hallucegenic on drugs.

While I might be wrong, I don't believe I recall reading any recent accounts of past violent criminals (who have paid their dues) "snapping" on flights. Maybe I'm wrong, but if someone has already paid their dues to society for a criminal act (be it a minor misdemeanor to a serious felony), leave them alone. As far as someone convicted of a terrorist related act, chances are they're probably still in prison and won't be traveling.

As far as those who are wanted or have outstanding arrest warrants, I don't think it's the TSA's business to enforce those either. I'd suspect many people have minor arrest warrants and don't even know it.

Several years ago I got pulled over for speeding while a college student. I had the ticket dismissed to a "driving class", but the court screwed up, marked me as a no-show, and issued an arrest warrant against me for failure to appear over an 8 over speeding violation. I had no clue what happened until I got a notice in the mail, but luckily I was able to take care of it with a phone call.

If someone has an arrest warrant for "Failure to appear" over a minor speeding violation, failure to have an automobile vehicle emmission tested, or something else stupid, should the TSA really be enforcing this, coding travelers RED, and having them arrested at the airport? Or how about a 20 yr old college student who forgot to pay a fine for underage drinking? Arrest them too? I think not. The government is going too far with this one and CAPPS II sounds like something more appropriate for North Korea, nazi-Germany during WWII, or what used to be the USSR.

As far as identity verification through credit files, what about lower income people who tend to move a lot? college students who move a lot? Professional contractors that move a lot and that live in more than one city? People with second homes or people who live down south in the winter, up north in the summer? Will they be coded yellow because they are not "rooted to one community" and have multiple addresses and/or frequent address changes in their credit file?

What about the college student who got too drunk one night at a fraternity party and got picked up for public intoxication or disorderly conduct? Will he/she be viewed as a security risk for a alcohol realated, minor misdemeanor on their record? This happened to a few of my friends while in college. Just how far will this system go?

What about those incorrectly identified as yellow, or RED?? Will they get secondary screening the rest of their life, or will there be a procedure to correct things? Will it actually get corrected? I don't trust the TSA, let alone the government to handle this.

CAPPS II is totally un-american and a sick invasion of privacy, among many other things.

Airport security for pax should consist of screening of the passenger & their belongings - period. Even the current CAPPS program is useless, flagging pax for things like one-way tickets.

Best,

SDF_Traveler

Got a little newsflash for you:

Hundreds of violent, convicted felons fly daily. Once released from prison, they can't vote or have a passport but they can travel by plane in the United States.

I do not want to see the powers of screening expanded. Former murderers and other violent criminals fly daily without incident.
