You can, but you may happen to have to wait a bit longer for a same-sex screener; and it also may mean that other passengers have to wait behind you in line longer as a result of opting out and/or wanting a same-sex screener.
At CPH, women seem to end up more frequently selected for pat-downs than men when it comes to the primary screening checkpoint. And so while it's frequently the case that each WTMD fed by two x-ray luggage scanning belt lines is assigned one male and one female pat-down artist, it's a daily routine for a substantial minority of patted-down passengers at CPH to be rubbed down by a screener of a different sex than the patted-down passenger; and if they insist on a same-sex pat-down, it may mean waiting a bit more than someone who doesn't care. |

Wait, you can request an opposite sex screener? Man, I love the Scandinavians - what a wonderful world!
But I think that most females would not like a strange man touching them. For me it is creepy, weird and a lot of other words that I cant write here. Plus I was once raped. So for me it is a big NO AND NO. |

I see male passengers being patted down by female screeners at CPH rather often, while opposite sex screener doesn't happen to female passengers with nearly as much frequency as it happens for male passengers.
Like when I was a kid in sweden Women cleaned the males rooms at a swimmingppol. But no men could do that to a females rooms. A male touching me at an airport. Yes I would get very angry and defensive. They would not touch me without me screaming out loud. |
The principle in CPH is that one security officer in each checkpoint is assigned the task of manual screening of passengers, and he/she pats down all the passengers in his line who have to get a pat down, regardless of the passenger's gender. If a passenger requests an officer of his/her own gender to conduct the manual search, another officer will be called over.

By the way, according to Europe Direct, the following regulation establishes the "new requirements" for security checks effective September 1: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-conte...=1439307527967

Thank you for posting the new regulation. I could not find anything in it either describing that pat-downs need to be conducted differently. Also, does one still have the right to opt out after September 1?

Yes, that remains fully unchanged.
