Peoria, IL also has an international airport. The sign on the interstate exit says U.S. Customs Port of Entry. I don't think anything international has ever landed here.
It doesn't surprise me that they would find this at a smaller airport. It seems like they aren't processing as many passengers, at least at Peoria, so they are more thorough. I almost always set off the WTMD at Peoria. That immediately leads to a patdown. I never get a second chance to go through the WTMD. The patdown is nearly as thorough as the NoS opt out one I got in LAS. They just didn't check the waistband of my pants. |
You know the random checks that they do now when you alarm the WTMD, it is not the normal alarm sound but the much softer alarm. Anyhow they will swab your hands. The etd machine will alarm on residue left on your hands even after scrubbing your hands. Anyway, that is what I think happened and you get the full bag check then and the pat down so they found the explosives in the bag check. OR, maybe they were just doing a bag check and were lucky.
