Wimpie, I have to ask if your screenname is a take on Weakly Interacting Massive Particles ( a candidate for "dark matter"?
Anyway, I wouldn't be so quick to exonerate millimeter wave scanners as being innocuous. New research by Alexandrov, Gelev, Bishop, et al, is pretty straightrorward that linear instabilities lead to local dimerization, in effect "unzipping" double stranded DNA, such as ours, and can lead to damage to intricate molecular processes involved in gene expression and DNA replication. And also take a look at Lai H, Singh NP. "Single- and double-strand DNA breaks in rat brain cells after acute exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation." Int J Radiat Biol. 1996 Apr;69(4):513-21. They also stated a specific absorption rate of 1.2W/kg. The scanners are approximately 1000 times less power than this. I think this argument is moot, sorry. Can't convince me it's more dangerous than the spurious emissions from a conventional TV set. Or the TV station a mile away. Or a cell phone 10 feet away. There still is the PRIVACY issue, however. The main reason besides Chertoff for buying the X-Ray scanners is that they have MUCH higher resolution. Review the images at tsa.gov (dumbed down) and check here: http://www.rupture.co.uk/Terminal%204.html |

This study quotes use of 2.45 Ghz. The scanners operate at 30 Ghz and don't have the biological effect of 2.45 GHZ - this is why 2.45 Ghz is used in microwave ovens - because of this frequency's specific action on water molecules.

It is clearly a medical device. If you or I sold such a machine without FDA approval, we would be arrested. |
It's been over a year since my pump alarmed at a mag. Needless to say, it's a solid object so has to be held away from body during imaging of any kind. All TSA now does is have you rub your hand over the pump, then swab your hand, run that through the spectrometer and off you go. I fly 3x / week and this is simply no longer an issue.

There is no standard policy or procedure for insulin pumps at airport security and this not only causes stress for the person with diabetes but can also quickly become a life-threatening emergency.
I want all airport authorities to recognise the risks of insulin pumps and x-rays and to train their staff accordingly. Here is my recent personal experience in an open letter to Dubai International Airport: http://ufofreight.com/uploads/open-l...1465414485.pdf It is great to see Dubai Airport taking necessary steps to improve their procedures as a direct result from our campaign: http://tradearabia.com/news/TTN_308346.html Here is my petition: https://www.change.org/p/airport-aut...rport-security We have the support of JDRF and many other high profile organisations: https://jdrf.org.uk/news/family-held...s-insulin-pump. I hope you can sign and share the petition to help spread awareness. Rachel Humphrey |
