Question 1st Checked Bag - No Fee - does it work?

Hello, does anyone have experience booking an International Flight in the Chase Ultimate Rewards Portal, which claims there is no fee for the first checked bag? The person on the phone help line was pretty much useless and said they can't guarantee it and to check with the airline (as noted on the website to "confirm" with the airline). I'm searching flights Frankfurt to LAX and the flight in the attachment shows no fee for first checked bag. I'm finding that for all of my searches there are one or two flights that claim no fee for first checked bag.

Has anyone booked a flight like this and determined if it actually includes the first checked bag for no fee? This is a pretty big deal if it works...$120 per person per round trip....even could make more "expensive" flights better options with no fee for first checked bag.

Thanks!

Update....it won't let me upload screenshot because I am new member....but I'm sure if you've seen or done this you know what i mean.....thanks

You should get one free checked bag in TATL coach on most airlines as long as it is not a Basic Economy fare.

Thanks for the response MADPhil. As far as I can tell, Chase Ultimate rewards doesn't tell you if it's basic economy, but the prices do match up with basic economy on google flights, skyscanner, etc., and as I mentioned, almost all flight options say that bags cost an extra $60 or so. It's just that one or two options per search will claim that the first checked bag is free, even though the pricing is the same as other flights. Chase covers themselves by advising to check with airlines for baggage fees, but I'd like to know if I can count on the first checked bag being free when Ultimate Rewards claims it is....

I would not be inclined to trust what Chase UR (Expedia I believe ) says, it is what AA say that counts. It may be that the only way to find out is to book it and then check with AA and use the 24 hour cancellation if you don't like the answer. It is a hassle as you have to cancel through Expedia and they may have a fee. Of course, if the fare is the same and the itinerary suits then you are no worse off than on the other flights.

My recollection is hazy, but I think it is Chase's portal which displays the Basic Economy price, but during the booking process there is sometimes an option to switch to standard Economy at a different price.

I did book the flight as a test, and YES the bags were included when I went to the British Airways Manage Booking Page. As Chase says, they don't guarantee it, but it's accurate in at least my case when it says 1st bag is free, so I'd imagine it therefore is usually accurate, but clearly Chase won't stand by it if you get hosed. Best to check with airline booking confirmation reference within 24 hours of booking with Chase to confirm if bags are included.
