Authorized Users + Mint.com

Have a bit of a dilemma and hoping for some help.

I travel weekly for work and use my personal card for all expenses, which are then reimbursed. This is great for points, but not-so-great for tracking expenses in our household, as using something like Mint.com requires manually indicating the work transactions are reimbursable to not have it effect budgets/reports/etc. I don’t have the time to do this weekly, so Mint.com is essentially useless for me right now.

I use the CSR for most of my expenses. From what I remember, if I add an AU to use for my work expenses, this won’t solve the problem, as all transactions show up on the same statement and are not reported out seperately. Is this still the case?

If so, are there any ideas on how to best seperate out work and personal expenses, without giving up 3x on travel/dining? I suppose I could move my work expenses to a non-Chase card but that certainly is not ideal for my points redemption needs.

Looking forward to any suggestions!

Yes, that’s still the case with purchases. Not really sure what the answer is, unless there is an ink card that could provide the same or similar category spending for you.

INK Preferred offers the same 3X on Travel.

INK Cash offers 2X on Dining

Citi Premier offers 3X on Travel + Gasoline, and 2X on Dining

INK preferred is a great idea but I’m over 5/24. Can I PC from a business Marriott card?

I don't believe so. On the business side, I think you can only PC between Ink flavors.

Where are your UR's ultimately ending up? Are you transferring them to a partner, or using them through the portal? If transferring, you could maybe find another card with good return that transfers to the partner(s) you are moving UR's to.

Other than that, you would have to wait it out to get under 5/24.

Mainly transfering to United and Hyatt though given my relatively high point balances, I might start just using the portal. Given that United/Hyatt don’t really have any good options for 3x travel spend, I think I’m kind of stuck here.

Perhaps I will need to leverage Citi for 3x for all business travel, but not sure I love that diversification given Citi’s relatively weak transfer partners and less lucrative portal.

Shame there is no better way but I appreciate everyone’s insight!

Ah. Yes, that combination is a difficult one to pull off.

I’ve decided to keep my CSR for all personal expenses.
For work, I’ll use my Marriott card for Marriott stays, and Amex Platinum for all airfare. I’ll likely use the Marriott card for dining as well, which I recognize is not ideal but I’m willing to earn less here just to simplify my life.

Nothing wrong with that. Simplicity has its own rewards. :)

I am in the exact same situation, but I just decided to be diligent and tag my work expenses as "Reimbursable" and then exclude that category from budgets, etc.
