Got the Pending.

On the phone now with Reconsideration Team.

I applied in person at a branch this morning. I was pre-approved for the card (banker told me that without asking), but my application still went to pending. The banker, and the person I just spoke to on the recon line, told me that it probably has to do with address verification (which I don't fully understand; I am a current Chase banking and credit customer and they have my current address on all my accounts). They said I would get a letter in the mail, and the recon person said he was not able to access the application to give me any more information. I'm thinking I may try to call back again this afternoon.

I am at 3/24, 755 credit score, $53,000 aggregate credit line from Chase right now (across 3 cards, only 2 of which I use), $98,000 total credit line including Amex and Citi, and $310k income. Not sure why I wouldn't have been auto-approved given the pre-approval, sub-5/24, and plenty of income to cover additional credit.

The materials they give you in-branch have the 100,000 bonus plastered all over them (I am holding those materials in my hand right now). It is legit, don't worry.

Same here. I don't get why Chase doesn't update across all platforms. Even with the Ritz card from the website I still see the old Visa Signature version.

Ha, going to be interesting to watch the points bloggers try to push this one if that's true.

Didn't stop them from pushing the CSP.

i doubt most of their readers even know what 5/24 is, given the flood of interest and questions about it on reddit yesterday

shihyin Aug 22, 2016 7:34 am

Just applied online. Got the 7-10 pending message...not a good sign. I am way over 5/24 but I did call to lower my credit limit on several Chase cards so that I don't need to move the credit at the end, but I guess it doesn't matter.

EDIT: called the reconsideration line just now and was told application declined due to too many account opened. 5/24 definitely in place.

That's true. I read through the comments on The Points Guy's FB yesterday, most certainly entertaining.

I guess now I'm faced with do I start churning the BOA Alaska card or wait until April when I'll be down to 4/25 and look into CSP or CSR.

djc205 Aug 22, 2016 7:36 am

Applied via [link] and approved - called to verify - offer was for the 100,000 after $4k spent in first 3 months.

injera Aug 22, 2016 7:38 am

Has anyone been able to access the application directly via Chase.com?

Also is Chase offering referral bonuses for this card? I'm received some in the past for referring friends to various cards. Have probably 7-8 friends i've convinced to sign up for the CSR card and it would be awesome if i could get a link to get 5,000 UR points for each referral or something.

Congrats, what's your 5/24 status? Thanks for verifying.

zeusmt Aug 22, 2016 7:40 am

If it's not on their site, how did someone get this URL?

srt8-blue Aug 22, 2016 7:44 am

Just applied via the link. Wife and I was approved instantly with 32k and 30k limit. I should be over the 5/24 rule and still got approved.

highops Aug 22, 2016 7:44 am

Scary data point:
Declined. Credit score around 800. 6/24. Have Chase checking and savings.

Called recon and got down to 5/24 after removing AU account. Still declined.

I should not have gotten the Unlimited.

We'll see how Mrs. HighOPS does.

FriscoHeavy Aug 22, 2016 7:44 am

Just got off line with reconsideration. Card Approved, but they told me they CAN'T EXPEDITE SHIPPING.

This is a real bummer as I need it in one week for vacation. Grrr.

gfunkdave Aug 22, 2016 7:46 am

Upgrading Sapphire Preferred to Reserve?

I've had a Preferred for 5 years or so and want to upgrade to the Reserve. Is it better to apply to the Reserve as a new account, then cancel the Preferred, or to just call Chase and ask to change the card over?

Or does it matter?

I don't churn cards or do MS, so 5/24 and such won't be a concern.

Thanks!

If you're under 5/24 apply for the CSR for the 100K points. Wait until the annual fee comes up on the CSP and downgrade to the Freedom Unlimited.

If you're over 5/24 wait a while and see what results people get on here/Reddit to see if we can confirm that they're applying the 5/24 rule.

Upgrade would not get you bonus but still get you $450 fee, of course also the benefits. Still...

If you dont need to worry 5/24 why would you give up the 100K sign up bonus?

matto2786 Aug 22, 2016 7:49 am

Approved for $16,600. I believe I was at or over the 5/24. Opened CSP, PRG, Chase FU, and I was stupid enough to open a Firestone card in late 2014 that I paid off and a Best Buy card in November 2015. Also have two car loans, one with Chase the other BofA. 759 credit, $75k declared income, with about $200k liquid assets.

coffee18 Aug 22, 2016 7:50 am

Feeling pretty leery about applying this since I am a million/24. But I think I'll take a stab at it after my 10am meeting.

ajc1970 Aug 22, 2016 7:50 am

Applied for myself (~25/24) and wife (exactly 5/24). Both applications got the 7-10 day language.

Well if you think that you'll be approved definitely apply for the card. Only if you apply and are approved will you receive the signup bonus. If you just do a product from from CSPto CSR, you'll get all the benefits but won't receive the 100K UR points. So based on the info you provided, apply for CSR, get approved and then cancel your CSP and move limit to CSR or any other Chase card that you have.

monkeywrencher Aug 22, 2016 7:50 am

Denied. 10/24 but 0 cards in the last year. Wouldn't budge. Same result for wife's application.

Thanks. I didn't realize that the 100k signup bonus was only for "new" accounts and didn't apply to "upgraded" ones.

Store cards don't count, IIRC.

Thanks for the data point, and for the day's major news item.

There you have it. No surprise here. Enjoy watching all the bloggers sending their sheep off to the slaughter without the slightest concern.

BTW, for those thinking "what the heck, I'll try anyway..." recall that on all Chase applications, you are required to tick a checkbox that says "I have not been denied credit by Chase for at least 6 months." I don't know exactly what it would mean if you did not answer that honestly, but if you try and fail on this app, then you're probably gonna have that additional 6 month clock running.

I don't churn like y'all do. I only have 2 inquiries for the past 2 years on my credit report and those weren't even credit card related. So effectively, 0/24.

I'm sure I would have been approved after it had been reviewed, but I'd like to try and get the card by later this week. However, I'm usually instantly approved.

Interesting, I believe I'm at 7/24 (two being stupid Rooms2go and Mattress Firm cards) plus one authorized user account. I'll wait to apply as more data becomes available.

StatusChallenged Aug 22, 2016 7:52 am

If you are approved please add the following information if you can

Were you over/under 5/24?
Are you a Chase Private Client?
If right around 5/24, did you have ink/store cards/AU?
If called recon, what was the original message you received?
Income:
credit score:

lobo411 Aug 22, 2016 7:53 am

OMG approved instantly!

I'm 6/24 IF you include Ink +
I'm 5/24 IF you include the Amex I opened in July, which isn't showing up yet on Credit karma
I'm 4/24 IF you go just based on what's on Credit Karma

2 of my cards were opened in May/June and both were Chase...I'm really quite shocked!

Credit score: 740
Stated Income: 82k

CL: 10k

Happy Aug 22, 2016 7:54 am

Looks like Chase will get their "preferred" customers with the 5/24 strictly enforced. Though it may be safe to say, a good portion of these "preferred" customers are churners at the beginning stage based on what are going on in Reddit. How many these "preferred" customers will stay to pay the 2nd year's $450 fee would be the big test which Chase is willing to wait for.
