I don’t see HAN listed on the CX website at all, nor does HK-HAN show up for CX on google flights. Is this just a COVID restriction relic or is CX not actually restarting on that route?

Here we go: CAAC, the Mainland regulator, officially approved CX operating 15 routes in Mainland China previously operated by KA.
http://www.caac.gov.cn/XXGK/XXGK/TZT...4127705510.pdf
15 destinations include Fuzhou, Qingdao, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Wenzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, Sanya and Chongqing.
The 6 destinations in Mainland but CX not applying are Jinan, Kunming, Changsha, Guilin and Nanning. These cities seem to have little demand for business traveling.

It remains to be seen if UO will apply to tourist destinations such as Kunming or Guilin. Bit that is for 2022 or later.

Changsha on the other hand would naturally have much less transfer passengers. For O/D traffic, Changsha actually is one of the few routes outside Guangdong where the highspeed train is somewhat competitive in terms of travel times.

Well Guangzhou is the third biggest city in China. If you want those people as transfer passengers, you need to offer them a flight. People are not gonna transfer via the train, it's still too slow and too much hassle.
Changsha on the other hand would naturally have much less transfer passengers. For O/D traffic, Changsha actually is one of the few routes outside Guangdong where the highspeed train is somewhat competitive in terms of travel times.

No signs of any CX metal flights CTU-HKG yet either close up or further out.
Also interesting that PEK not included in transfer of KA to CX flights though I know that some Cathay flights were always flown separately to KA ones.

CX resumes Phnom Penh service (cargo-only for now), another route previously served by KA.
