MPC Qualification and Expiration

Hi, I am a newbie to MPC and have some questions regarding the qualification period and expiration of MPC membership. I am currently a Silver member, which will be expired in August 2020. My MPC point is currently at 200 and I may achieve 300 by January 2020. If I do obtain 300 and requalify for Silver, will my membership expiration date change to January 2021 or August 2021? And if I do obtain 300 in January 2020, do I need to requalify again by January 2021 or August 2021? The system is so confusing, I really wish they switch to a qualifying mechanism similar to UA or other western airliners.

Expiration date will change to January 2021 and you will need to achieve 300 points before that date to renew. If you want to upgrade to gold, then you need to achieve 600 points by January 2021, but again whichever month you upgrade will be your new 12 month period.

Edit: as you are already silver, reaching 300 points in January won’t change your membership year. You can either try to get a total of 600 (ie additional 300) points by august 2020, to upgrade to Gold, or just have your silver tier renew in august.

If I do not plan to aim for Gold in the first place, then I assume the wise thing is to slow down my re-qualification pace and delay reaching 300 as slow as possible (for example by summer)? This concept is so strange!

Wouldn’t the membership year remain on August rollover if the OP (currently silver), just requalifies -aka doesn’t hit the 600 for Gold by August’20? And then have till August ‘21 to renew silver/upgrade to gold..

Oh sorry yes! I didn’t realise the OP was already silver. In this case reaching 300 points in January to requalify won’t change your membership year.

Thanks, just to clarify, if I hit 300 in January, I would then have Silver till August 2021. But my silver requalification for the next year won't start counting till September 2020 right?

You can get 2 lounge guest passes if you can hit 450 pts before Aug. 2020. That's the only other incentive I would say.

Not related to the main thread but would like to ask for opinions. My status shows it expires on March 2020, does this mean end of march or beginning?

I am 20 pts short of SL, any suggestions on the most cost effective way to get the last 20 pts? Alternatively I am thinking of phoning to extend another month and see if a business trip comes up that would make it easier.

Thanks!
