Check for seat availability and whether Avios redemption worth it for PY?

Unless I知 mistaken, CX PY redemption is about 150k Avios for YVR-HKG. I知 looking at 124k Avios plus tax. The fare is usually between C$1.7k-C$2k. Unfortunately, no lounge access with PY. Can I select my seat in advance even though it痴 an award flight? How can I check if window seat is available?

Thx.

You can create a dummy booking on cathaypacific.com or you can check the seat map on expertflyer.com.

You should be able to select a premium economy award seat in advance, although my experience is limited to awards booked with Asia Miles.

I thought EF doesn稚 have the ability to search anything CX?

Furthermore, if I book Y for award redemption, but later want to upgrade to PY or J, is that possible via Avios or cash? If so, how much am I looking at?

Its a horrible use of miles; almost criminal.

You cannot upgrade.
You can cancel and rebook, with a fee.

You mean for Y, PY, or both?

either.

Tickets in Y can be purchased very cheaply, and PY, not much more.

150K Avios can do many wonderful things.

I made a typo. PY is 124k round trip. Still horrible redemption by your standard? I don稚 see any availability for J.

Despite the political unrest, I haven稚 really seen massive discounts for PY and J fares. While in Y, I知 seeing $650 rt with CX, which is similar to the mainland carriers. I can稚 recalled ever seeing anything like this from CX before.

Can you get J on JAL to Tokyo? Then a second Y ticket to HK. J RT to Tokyo was 55K each way last time I took it. That allows a lovely Tokyo stop too

Yes, I do see J availability on JL. Since the number of segments affects the redemption rate, is it also worth going for J on NRT-HKG?

I知 suggesting use points for JAL (110,000 irc RT J)

then book separate Y ticket, cash or points - to HK.

flying Y across the Pacific to go to HK, VS J across, Tokyo mini break - then sub 4 hour sector in Y...

easy math.
