Whenever I plan on using those showers (or any others without free towels), I simply pack a smallish towel that is ready for retirement in my laptop bag.

Do I have to go via transfers to get to the CX lounges? Presumably once I reach the lounge, there will be no problems dropping off our things. But how do I leave the airport from there? In the evening, is there any problem in getting back into the airport via immigration/security even though I entered via transfers then left the terminal?

The alternative would be to just leave the airport and go to left luggage, but it would be handy to be able to drop off at the lounge if possible.

And do all of the cx lounges have lockers/luggage drop off? I've used before but can't remember which one now.

thank you!
How much time do you have?
The PP arrival shower normally have a very long waiting list, I wouldn't consider that an option after only a short flight from TPE. Why not enter the departure area and use the lounge for food, shower and storage, and also be able to provide us some data point, about how easy and how long it would take for some one to escort you back to landside.

We arrive from LHR at around 0700 and fly again at 2100 so 14 hours. But I do need to be out and about so don't want to hang around too long waiting for escorts/showers. So I think we'll go straight to arrivals PP lounge and book shower, have a bite, hopefully shower, then dump luggage next door at left luggage.

I have left airside LHR before, was fairly straightforward, just wait a bit for someone to escort out, so it looks like the same process in HKG. Just that I'm with family this time so don't want to mess around.

Technically, there is a chance they would refuse to provide the escort/paperwork. More typical is an excruciatingly long wait.

Regarding the PP arrival lounge, the wait during the morning rush can be as much as 60 or 90 minutes, but it isn't too bad, though they can do a better job at cleaning & prep. Sit down, have some coffee & breakfast, and the time will pass soon enough.

By the way, a little OT, but why did CX close the arrival lounge? Was it for renovation or simply lack of demand?

Plenty of discussion about this in this thread:

Short answer is T2 is being demolished/renovated, so it was going to close anyways, but either the contract between CX and Airport Authority was due, or cost cutting, they closed the lounge last year, despite T2 is still open until further this year.

Best solution is using PP arrival lounge and leave you carryon there and collect when you back from city.

Really? I am not aware of this! T2 is currently handling a lot of check-in traffic, and there is no way the current T1 will be able to accommodate all of that. What will happen to the airlines currently residing in T2?

Since no airlines actually fly out of T2, it's really just a matter of freeing up some check-in counters. Sure, longer lines will ensure, but the world won't stop spinning.

Does the PP lounge have luggage facilities? Not being cheap or anything as the left luggage is cheap and right next door, but if the lounge has luggage facilities for free then I might as well use.

T1 check in area is currently being expanded. You can see the hoarding on the right hand side as you enter the airport.

You suppose to be in the PP lounge for left luggage... However, if this is really enforced, I am not sure.

Oh, you mean the area next to the right of Isle J? If so, I haven't noticed it as I mainly go to the CX counters. I will take a look next time
