Wouldn't be surprised if there's some association out there with a minimal membership fee that has the Amex Plat CC annual fee discount as a benefit...

Got an offer to purchase Asia Miles:

HK$80,000 for 800,000 miles
HK$50,000 for 450,000 miles
HK$25,000 for 200,000 miles

Is it worth it?

Just to be clear - this is from a credit card? If so, which one?

If you mean just purchasing from some random person then that's a) against the AsiaMiles rules and they may prove worthless, and b) in the wrong thread!

Ah, OK. And, as our guru, what is your view on the offer?

Is anyone aware of a SCB Asia Miles Card welcome offer apart from the mediocre 40,000 (+ 4,000 referral bonus) one available on their website? I'm about to pass one year without the card so time to re-apply.

This time last year they had a 177,000 bonus AM welcome offer if I recall correctly.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but DBS is running a reasonably attractive welcome offer on the Black Card at the moment:

Local Spending
  • HK$1 = 1 mile (upper limit: 5,000 miles) for first HK$5,000
  • HK$5 = 1 mile (upper limit: 47,000 miles) for thereafter HK$235,000
Overseas Spending
  • HK$1 = 1 mile (upper limit: 5,000 miles) for first HK$5,000
  • HK$2.5 = 1 mile (upper limit: 28,000 miles) for thereafter HK$70,000
Ignoring the HK$5 = 1 mile portion, it's an 'easy' 38,000 miles for $80k spend. Transfers to KF and Avios apart from Asia Miles.

How does DBS treat WC/AP/PayMe spend?

Normal spend: all eligible for normal earn i.e. $6/AM

Welcome offer:
7.1.2 For the purpose of this Welcome Gift, “Local Spending” refers to the posted retail transactions settled in Hong Kong Dollars and Macau Pataca conducted at the point of sales (in case of online transactions, the place of registration and/or settlement of the merchant) in Hong Kong and Macau. For the avoidance of doubt, the following types of transactions shall not be considered as Local Spending: ...reload of e-Wallets (e.g. PayMe, WeChat Pay and Alipay)

I can't guarantee 100% it will be enforced.
OTOH I can't find a data point that it isn't enforced so have to assume it will be.

I did this, but you don't actually have to take the exam.
(1) You apply and get student membership
(2) You apply the AE Plat as student member
(3) You cancel your exam and get some of your money back
(4) Profit from lower annual fee every year
