Upgrade concerns using miles...
Hi all,
Just wondering...I bought tickets in Economy (H) from HKG to LAX. I was glad that upgrades were available, and I used miles to upgrade them. I snagged the upgrade before I actually bought the ticket, so they each had a different confirmation code.
Brief timeline of events:
1. Called Asia Miles to have the ticket applied to the upgrade. It was done.
2. Called Asia Miles for seat assignment. Seat assignment done, but then the agent immediately called me back to say that I HAD TO BUY A TICKET FIRST. Told her I did, and was immediately freaking out that my reservation was canceled.
3. Called reservations, and the nice lady told me that they had canceled the reservation because Asia Miles confirmed the upgrade, and she told me that the ticket information had been transferred to the U-inventory booking from the upgrade.
4. The online "Manage My Booking" tool still says that the reservation is not ticketed, but another agent says that it is.
5. Asia Miles have not been taken from my account. At least, when I log in to the CX website, it still shows my pre-upgrade mileage balance.
My questions:
Am I OK with the confirmed seats in business?
Does it matter that the online reservation management tool does not show the ticketing information given that the reservations agents CAN see it? Do any techies have any clue as to why this is?
When are Miles debited from the account? I'm just concerned that the miles weren't taken and I'll be screwed? Is there anything else I should to to put my mind at ease?
Muchas gracias to everyone here...I spend WAY too much time reading all the helpful posts and I'm grateful I found the forum!
All the best,
Dan

It is strange that the upgrade has been ticketed but the mileage is not deducted. Normally the economy ticket is cancelled at the same time as the mileage is deducted.
Ask for them to email you a copy of the e-ticket. If you receive it, you should be fine.

It usually takes a couple of days to issue the ticket, depending on the backlog. I had similar situation before and it took them more than 3 to 4 days, but that was right at the deadline for mileage increase some 2 years ago.
You will be fine and miles will be taken. :-)
