I think mentioned earlier here the 747 empower is fixed by work around and only available in F and J ....

Anyone have their butt in Y to confirm it ? (May be I will try to ask FA on my CTS flight also .. I fly in J this time so don't know about Y)

can someone please tell me if CX881 has working usb for charging in Economy Class? Thank you!!

There's something wrong, apparently the AC power can only be used to power the laptop, not charge it. This means you have to remove the battery. Same with the other devices. I tried it with my iPhone and it doesn't charge. It would be great if CX can change that.

I cannot think of any possible intelligent device that CX could have installed that knows for what purpose electricity is being drawn from a socket. Does anyone else have this experience?

On SFO-HKG my iPhone charged on board in flight... did you check to see if the green light was on?

Also, the USB/Ethernet is covered up on the 74As.

Did you travel in Y class on a 77A?

No... I was in J on a 74A.

Today, CX252 was supposed to have working power in Y but at least in my seat (and on next seat as well) the light didn't come up. In CX777 (B777 with New Economy) however power in Y was working. I used it to charge my iPhone, which really needed it after so many connections.

Is there a list somewhere of which aircraft have working power in Y? Is it purely pot luck or do all the "Olympus" aircraft now have working power?

And report from my return trip, in Economy class.

CX776 and CX251 - no working power. I think the common factor was Boeing 747, CX777 on my way to Jakarta was operated with Boeing 777 and there I had working power. All flights were with the New Economy.

From the sounds of it, the power in Y works on everything but the B747. Does this mean that the newly converted 34B's will have working power in Y as well?

To my understanding, all new Y seats have working power point except those on 74A. The reason is some issue with HKCAD when CX install the new Y seats on 74A. If my memory is correct a few 74A do have working power point in Y class for testing.(I only can remember one of them is B-HKT or HOT?)

The issue with battery in versus out is one of amperage drawn by the laptop. On some aircraft that I have flown with my Sony VAIO I can use my laptop with the battery but after some number of minutes the power is disabled due to the amperage being drawn. Removing the battery solves the problem.

Excellent. Here's to hoping that my trip from LHR-HKG-AKL, which shows as 343, is a 34D. Fingers crossed.
