Complaining to the Chairman of CX

Once I heard a story about complaining to the Chairman of CX. A well known HK bloke was running a little bit late for his flight. As he was heading down to Kaitak, he called CX at the airport and asking the staff to hold the flight for him for 15 mins. We can guess the rest - the plane took off without him. He then wrote a letter to the Chairman of CX and complained about this incident.

The Chairman replied to this bloke saying something like this :

"I am sorry to hear that our staff did not hold your flight for you. I do know how you feel. They never held any flight for me - the Chairman of their airline."

The Chairman back then was Peter Sutch. God bless his soul!

I can feel the difference between being in Canada or Australia
I'm treated like every other caucasian/non-asian in Canada
but in Australia they don't respect Asian people as much.

if he really know chairman of CX i dont think he need to pay for his flight and argue with flight attendant.

Do you really think everyone who is friends with the chairman of CX gets free flights? Or even free upgrades?

First of all, my apology for not reading the thread clearly and think that guy is mainlander. No prejustice and no offense.

I do not think Friends will get free flights, I believe the chairman goes with the staff benefits too? They still need to pay...

My housemate's uncle works for CX and this housemate can get staff ticket.
(Though I find it totally unfair)

Maybe the seat issue in J happens frequently? I was in J on a CX charter, the seat next to me was vacant going out, but on the return leg an 'auntie' of one of the other J passengers had come up from Y class. The FA knew as they did a head count. I thought the FA was too nice and let the Auntie stay and organised for her meal to be brought up, etc. I didn't think the sneaky J passenger who organised it deserved any grace at all really.

It's funny how people always make these judgements.

It's not always racism, sometimes just profiling. I too was flying out of SYD on CX in business class with my 12-year-old son, and when they called J boarding we got up to approach the gate and the two agents gave us fierce looks and said no, no, this is business class, you need to sit down... they looked really shocked and abashed when I showed them BPs for row 12. They shouldn't prejudge that only adults of a certain age, dress and look could possibly be flying up front.

this actually happened quite often with CX/KA a few years ago, in HKIA. when checking people's boarding pass for eligibility to queue in the F/J line (and at that time KA was not in CX/MPO yet so the F/J line was substantially shorter, and CX didn't allow GR to queue in the F/J line back then) - the gate FAs often skipped the non-Asians/Caucasians and just checked the boarding passes of the Asians/Chinese. in a couple of instances I did ask them - why you are only checking the Chinese / why you skipped the few people in front of me / etc - of course they couldn't answer and then went back to check the others as well. (and the worst is - I have seen non-Asians in front of me holding Y boarding pass and no elite #/status on the BP and didn't get checked !! they seem to know the loophole)

I had mentioned this to the supervisors at the gate a few times too while boarding and there was not much improvement. I ended up writing an email to some senior management at CX - not sure if it means anything, but at least it seems to me now this checking process is much more consistent and they check everyone.

incidently, i just got back from a flight from HKG to TPE and I was one of the first pax to reach the baggage claim. There was a lady with a Prada luggage there as well.. she didn't look happy, but as soon as the luggage began to roll out she began blabbering off to the CX staff in English saying.. "FIRST CLASS HERE! where is my luggage?!" her's finally game after round the 10th or so, while i must say... yes it did take a while, but what difference does it make 1st or 10th? I must say it is CX's ground handling mishap to not have paid more attention to the luggage tags as the first ones to roll out were not even "biz priority" bags.. as mine was only "biz" i got mine about 3 luggages later than hers.. but one of the last things she said was.." your GM will hear about this.. " hahaha.. I just find it funny that even though she was either a DM or on a F tix this HKG-TPE flight only had 2 classes and she didn't really loose much time waiting a few luggages down. I was amazed by her reluctance to speak Chinese untill the very last minute...(she was asian)
