I had a similar menu on my HKG-CDG flight in Sept. The braised chicken was fabulous.

On the other hand, no need to pick the Mak’s noodle soup for supper. You can have it as mid-flight snack, along with an egg tart, Yum.

Is that the braised chicken and bean curd stick? How does it compare to the pork patty, conpoy and clay pot rice if anyone has had both? I'm more attracted to the claypot but opinions welcome! :)

Yes it is. I dont recall having clay pot rice in flight but I'd assume it would be something suited to be reheated and enjoyed on board.

On a side note, I've noticed vast improvement in quality in Chinese meals inflight (for both J and PEY) when compared to other cuisines in recent months, IMHO.

I have not seen the clay pot rice on any printed menu so I am wondering if it may actually be a pre-order only option?

Good news on the quality of Chinese catering. I have to say that as mentioned, I used to often find it a bit underwhelming on CX which is disappointing as it is often what tempts me most on paper so very glad if they have upped their game!

If I recall, I pre-ordered it via the app. With CX, I'll generally opt for the Chinese offerings because I'll likely order the cheeseburger during mid flight.

I'd be very keen to know too! I've got the same top three and last two options, though on my flight (overnight to SYD) it is a slow cooked beef short rib with artichokes and horseradish mash potatoes instead of the Vietnamese pork chop, and I am similarly hesitating between the claypot and the short rib. Strangely enough, on CX, I find the Western courses more consistent than the Chinese ones so would definitely like to know if the claypot is one of the better ones or not!

Got off from CX255 a day ago. These are the meals photos with the clay pot rice-

The clay pot rice was good, but nothing phenomenal. It clearly lacked the favour from real flame cooking.

I have on, if I recall, HKG to JFK flight, or was it CDG to HKG? Anyway, it was excellent and one I enjoyed very much, and would order again without hesitation. On my recent relatively recent JFK - HKG, they didn't have the claypot rice, assuming unlike HK, they couldn't find a catering source in NYC. I'd probably order it again over the other choices in J.

Thanks for replying. Glad I picked it over the Vietnamese pork chop.

The clay pot rice was on both pre-select online option and onboard menu. YMMV.

RE: Claypot Rice

Mine looked different from the one from your pic. If I recall, mine was mixed with Chinese sausages (lop cheung), dried shrimp (ha-mai), and don't know the English word for it, the dried pork (sow yook). I don't recall what appears to be sausage patty on the one served in your pic.

FYI CX did once served clay pot rice with Chinese sausage. Guess it's a winter thing.

Ok, this is the one I had. Guys, apologize for my initial confusion on assuming they were the same dish.
