haha well the main point still is that no one really has to worry about having nothing to do in hk at night. that's what i love about hong kong... you can stay out late and you don't get weird looks from people =)

If in fact the proposed schedule to LAX is effectuated, it's interesting that LAX will continue to rely almost exclusively on 74A equipment. Wasn't it CX's intention to convert all LAX ops to 77A as quickly as possible. Does this have something to do with capacity, 77A availability, a combination, or some other reason(s)? What do you think (or, more importantly, know) about this apparent decision?

I did hear somewhere that some of CX's upcoming 77A deliveries are delayed but this winter they are using this aircraft for LAX 5x weekly (at least during February and most of March). So even with the delays, they should be able to operate the same amount of frequency for this route using this aircraft in summer unless if for some reason some 77As will undergoe maintenance issue (which is highly unlikely considering it being new and I'd be surprised if so). So if not they should at least be able to operate this aircraft for the same amount of frequency in the summer as they are this winter.

Does it really matter that much to the passenger?
It's most important for CX to use the 773ER in the winter to avoid the fuel stops. In the summer, fuel stops on the 744 are rare, so they have options to use both types. |
Looks like CX is bringing back CX884/885, 4 times a week with old 747-400 configuration

http://airlineroute.blogspot.com/200...3rd-daily.html and it definitely would not be operated by 744, as the whole 747 pax fleet will finish 74A conversion by May 2009. |
CX announced that their second flight to CDG is going to be daily (as opposed to 4 per week). The other flight is operated by 74A as usual, but the new daily flight is operated by a mixture of A340B, C or D depending on the day of the week (checked last week of April). That is truly A340 roulette!

OTOH, I'm not going to stop flying CX to avoid the 77A. I love the new CX hard product, and while the soft product may have slipped a bit in the past few years, it's still great (again, IMO, YMMV, of course). |
Quick note. CX884/885 is returning as DAILY, not 4 weekly as it was loaded in the GDS. And it'll be 74A, not the old-style 744.
Effective 29OCT09 |

Actually, I was quite stunned earlier this week to find LKF closed (entirely) at 2am. And in Wanchai only a couple of bars still open (Spicy Fingers, Dusk til Dawn). Delaney's, for example, was closed. Bulldog's Wanchai now closes at midnight except Saturdays. The bankers are obviously beginning to feel some pain :)
