Transiting in Beijing
Flying KA in economy from HKG to BJS and then connecting onward to YYZ on AC in business.
1) I assume KA staff would through check the luggage and issue the AC boarding pass in HKG ?
2) What would be the weight limit on check-in luggage ?
3) At BJS, given that KA and AC both operate in T3, would immigration clearance (entry and then exit) be required ? Or would go straight through airside ?

Is it one ticket & booking, or two separately bought tickets & bookings? The answer to (1) and (2) will be different depending on that.
If one booking & ticket, then (1) is yes, and (2) will be piece system (2 x 32 kg)
If two bookings, then (1) is yes to thru tag of bag (if you show proof of onward confirmed booking) and "maybe" to boarding pass, and (2) will be 20kg.

Thanks. Should have clarified. It is on two separate tickets. Even if luggage can be checked through, I assume "priority tag" on the luggage is either out of the question or irrelevant, assuming it's the AC part that I really care for... ?

I have never done KA->AC on separate tickets before, but have done CX->AC on separate tickets which was earlier this year: CX HKG-SFO and then AC SFO-YYZ. CX at HKG not only tagged my bags all the way to YYZ but also printed both HKG-SFO & SFO-YYZ BPs as well.

Just out of curiosity... You did not have to pick up your luggage in SFO to clear with US Customs right ? You only saw your luggage in YYZ ? I thought US Customs would never allow that.

Of course we had to pick our luggages at the baggage claim for the CX flight at SFO behind the Immigration Passport Checkpoint Counters even though it was tagged YYZ as final destination which we later dropped them off at the Connecting Baggage Desk. So we did see our luggages at SFO.

So this is what actually happened......
Checked in at KA in HKG and was told that even though they could through-check the bags to Toronto, they would not recommend it as they were not entirely sure whether the baggage handlers would follow the instructions and send the bags straight to the flight to Toronto or dump the bags at the luggage caroussel. But with a 3.5-hour layover in BJS (both KA and AC use T3) it does not matter. Agent was kind enough to tag the bags "Priority" so that they could be retrieved in BJS sooner.
