CX 77A- Best seats aboard
I'm flying 826/827 in Dec/Jan, and I'm having problems choosing the best seat. I've been told by a CX office that my 827 flight is practically full. Flying in Y class for this leg. I have a bulkhead window seat, 31K (well i really wouldn't call it that because there's no window). Does the exit door make the leg room narrower? and how much narrower is the seat itself (because of table in seat, tv in seat, etc) Is there a better seat in Y class for room, comfort, etc.
My return for 826 is in J. It'll be my first time flying J on the 77A, and I currently have a seat in the mini cabin. Is it true that it's a lot more cramped than the larger part of J? I'm also looking for a bit more quiet, which I believe the mini cabin should give me. Is this true? Should I be changing seats? In terms of J, what's the best seat in the cabin? I've looked at seat guru, but i want to hear from experience. Thanks |
I don't think the mini cabin is any good. You have FAs moving between J class and F class all the time and the proximity to the galley is disturbing.
In J, I think the best seat on the 777 is mid way through the cabin. Far enough away from Y class, and for enough away from the galley as well. With the high walls on the J class seat cells, privacy is not really an issue. And any extra perceived privacy in the mini cabin is over ridden with the feeling of claustrophobia that you don't get in the log J cabin. |

The only thing I don't like is the lavatory is very close by. When they dim the lights the opening of the lavatory door can be very bothersome. Make sure you get an eye mask from the FA. The seat width is slightly narrowed, I'd say about 1-1.5 inch. Oh, you should ask for an extra blanket as 31K can get very cold during the flight. |
Are the emergancy exit doors at row 54A/K same as those at row 31A/K?
|
they're not. the ones at 54 have the protruding slide

im flying 827 in a couple of days and the flight is REALLY full. i dunt even have any seat assignment. i can only get it 48 hours before departure. when looking at dumby booking, the only sy seats available was a middle-middle seat which i really hate.
going to take 826 in jan and the 826 from 1st-4th are all full. dumby booking won't even get through. I was hoping i could get an upgrade using my Asia Miles. But now i have low doubts =( why cant they add extra flights during this peak season! a 772LR from AC and 773ER from CX just won't cope with the high demand from YYZ during this period. Especially many many students go back home! |
I'm going to give CX another shot with the new J later this month on the YYZ route after a horrendous experience with the seat on the 74A back in June. Would also be the first time I'll be able to sample it on the 77A as previously, I have only sat in F for the 77A. But at least this time I'll be more prepared and have a general idea of what I'll be getting, having sat on it before on the 74A.

Did you try to get seat assignments from your TA or MPC? If you have not done so, you should call MPC before OLCI opens. As a SL member, they may be able to get you an aisle seat.
Also, can someone clarify what does "OLCI" stand for? Also, Im hoping to try the very last row of the economy class. There's a 2 seater on that row. The reason is becoz bulkhead do not have windows =( Thanks! |

Yea Im always wondering why I can never get a seat assignment. My TA always say you will have to get the seat 48hrs before departure. This has always boggled my mine. Why other passengers can get all their seat assignment? Im jus assuming they all have their seat assigned as when I try doing the dumby booking, there are no other seats available. Would it be because I'm a "K" ticket? I'm confused how this works. Is there anyway I can do my seat assignment right now online?
That explains it. CX blocks 70% of the seats of the plane for MPO/OW elites and until check-in and the remaining 30% is available to everyone else from 180 days prior to the flight. Unfortunately CX.com does not recognise elite status in their booking engine so what you see in the dummy booking is the 30%. Have you tried calling MPO to give you a seat assignment? Also, can someone clarify what does "OLCI" stand for? Online Check-in |

If that means "claustrophobic" to some, then so be it. The main J cabin feels a bit like a hostel. Many of the window seats in the main J cabin have views blocked by the wing (not like it's easy to look out the window from these seats anyway...). |
I agree, I find the mini cabin much better than the main cabin. I sat in 11A HKG-JFK and had no problems with cabin noise. I also found the extra space in front of 11A/K excellent and I could put my laptop bag and other small things in the mini locker. As aforementioned, the cabin has a very private feel and all service was done by hand, rather than off a trolley. I went for a walk back through the main cabin and the larger business section didn't feel very exclusive but more like a flying dormitory. YMMV. I'd go for the mini cabin, particularly 11A/K again without a hesitation.

The best seats on the 77A are any seat in rows 1 and 2. They get progressively worse as the row number increases. Hope this helps.

thanks everyone for the quick reply. i'm gonna stick with my mini cabin seat and see how it is.
finally flew the Y leg from YYZ to HKG the other day. 99% capacity in all classes (F was full only cuz there were op-ups, and one of them was a friend i met at the airport! i was so jealous that i'd be sitting in cattle class while she's up there enjoying herself. hated how the FA said 31K is on the right side of the plane without enthusiasm, while she said "welcome ms. li i'll have someone escort you to your seat" when my friend handed over that F pass. ahhh, worst part of my flight) anyway i can say that keeping my 31K seat was definitely the right choice. and yes it gets amazingly cold at 30000+ feet, especially crossing over arctic waters, so yes, bigbite is right, grab an extra blanket, you'll need it. had the best meal i've ever had on Y class on this leg. the stir fry beef was so tender and more like beef chunks than pieces of normal airline beef. anyway will be flying back on jan 5 and will see how the J class seat is. and yiu there is NO possible way you can get a cx ticket on jan 1-5, let alone get an award tic. (even all F class is full on jan 5, the day i'm flying, so an idea of how full it really is.) all classes are overbooked, and according to what i last heard from a cx booking office at YYZ right before i left, jan 1-13 is packed for Y. but i definitely agree with you. i'd love to see extra flights being put in during the high seasons for student travels from yyz to hkg and vice versa. yiu if you really need a seat assignment, you can go to the cx office in YYZ, it's in downtown toronto on yonge, and between queen and king. the people there are really nice. that's how i got my bulkhead seat for this leg (mind you i didn't have any kind of status with cx when i booked this ticket/seat) but being a SL, you probably can call. |
