When will 74A fitout be complete
Does anyone know when the 74A conversion will be completed by? Currently there are 14 aircraft converted (of which 2 are currently being converted) and 8 still awaiting conversion, is there a set time frame, as the old product is still shown on Expert Flyer as flying to LHR in March of next year, could it possibly take that long.
|
The two 74Js will still fly to SFO in August so they won't be converted for a while, I guess.
I believe CX has not updated their timetables yet, and hence the presence of the old config to LHR next year. |
The CX website states that 10 744s have been converted and 14 not yet. I assume from the above posts that the info is outdated. How many 744s do they convert per month?

It is perplexing they are continuing to convert the 747's but they cannot figure how to resolve the PC power on them.
It demerits their service, flight experience and value for business travellers. |

They should really be ashamed of the age and quality of the fittings in a flight that last over 7 hours when charging a proper business class fare. Does anyone know when (or if) the PER route is going to get some updated planes? |

He is referring to the fact that the laptop power has been completely disabled on the 74A. Actually, I did find one where it was working but on every other flight it has been completely disabled.
|
It's B-HKT that has the laptop power working - but then I noticed that it has the old IFE software (although the hardware is new). I then asked the FA and she said it's because the new IFE software (which is on all other 74A's except this one) is not compatible with the laptop power. However, this doesn't completely answer the question as on all the 77A's, new IFE software and functioning laptop power co-exist...

Still no PC power on 747 with new seats
I am referring that at least on the LAX-HKG-MNL-HKG-LAX routes the power for the PC has been completely dissabled on the new configuration 747. A flight engineer told me that this is on all 747 that have been reconfigured that have new VOD. There was one that had the new seats but the older VOD where it still worked, but that one is undergoing VOD upgrade and likely PC power elimination at the present.
I am speculating there is a serious design flaw that prevents CX from turning it on. I have been on a dozen or more of flights in F and J on these routes since the start of the year and it has never been operational. Flew LAX-HKG last week (no PC power) and returning this weekend to LAX - no PC power expected. Every flight I hear multiple apologies from the staff regarding this. But I suspect they have no clue as to how to fix it. If you need PC power, best is to look, for now, for an alternate carrietr |

Is there anyone here who works at CX and can tell us what on earth is wrong with the inflight power on 74As?

here's what I got from CX shortly after I wrote to them on the web a few weeks ago...
Thank you for your Feedback Form, advising us of your disappointment in relations to the availability of in-seat power on your recent flights with us. We appreciate that this is a major inconvenience for you and do profusely apologize for the frustration this has clearly caused. We are progressively introducing our new cabin products on our long haul flights to make your flight more enjoyable. At the same time, we are also phasing in our new in-seat power system where a special adaptor previously required is no longer needed. Unfortunately, we have encountered technical issues with this system on the above-mentioned Boeing 747, which we have not yet been able to fully resolve. You may be assured that we are working closely in conjunction with the supplier on a solution to rectify this as quickly as possible. Regarding aircraft with our current in-seat power system, we are concerned to note that we were unable to provide you with a compatible adaptor for your IBM notebook. We regularly review the tips contained in our AirPower Adapter Kit based on the notebooks most frequently used by our passengers. We are pleased to inform you that we will be rolling out the new tip across our fleet shortly. In closing, thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. We will contact you again when we have more information on the likely timeframe to fully resolve the issue. |
