Perhaps it's time you visited Sydney and experienced the lounge there.

on the return get to hkg early so you can dine in the first class lounge. it is unlike any lounge i have ever seen
Well I had given myself about 1.5 hrs in HkG on the return trip but I could get there earlier - Is it really worth spending a lot of time at the F lounge? Should I have my meal in the lounge or wait for the on board experience ( or maybe both) - I certainly sounds as though Cathay have a lounge to compete with the Club House (Virgin) in Heathrow. I have never been to HK airport before and was wondering is the shopping good there for gifts for my family etc.? |

don't short yourself on time hkg is great. as for food, try both. the choices in the lounge are broader and are great for snacking.

The lounges are great - but 1.5 hrs is plenty of time. It always amazes me that these lounges are so hyped up. These are airline lounges after all, not tourist attractions. As good as The Haven is it is no better than the average buffet in a 5-star hotel.

very true indeed - But I suppose if its a flight and experience one does not get too many chances to do so maybe its worth getting there a little earlier and giving it a good "blast" at the bars / food etc

Do you mean the new Qantas F lounge? I tried to find out the facilities there. Also the dining area looks good in the photo, but is the food good too?
Compare to the Haven the QF food quality is pretty ordinary. esp the breakfast dishes. It is a sit down restaurant and not a buffet but I find the variety and quality (the breakfast sausages and eggs were revolting. Also when I asked for eggs to be cooked half way - they didn't understand what I meant? During peak hours it gets more crowded than the Wing/Pier as there are way more WPs and cheap domestic flights. The one thing I hate is the carpets in the lounge, I personally think Marc Newson is an overhyped and lack the elegance Starck and other great designers have. |

Regarding the food in the new QF lounge, the tomato and buffalo mozzarella salad I had, and the fetta tart was delicious. But it is all a matter of taste. The QF F lounge serves poshy western food, and if you don't like that, it won't be suitable for you. I did get the feeling that I was sitting in an open plan restaurant and kitchen, which is different for an airline lounge. It is very "busy busy" with so many staff, but I think overall it is better than the CX F lounge. But considering the CX F lounge was setup 10 years ago, the CX lounge is still very respectable. |

That doesn't surprise me at all - the concept of cooking things "so many per cent" or "halfway" is terminology I have only heard in Greater China. It isn't used in English-speaking countries at all as far as I know.

Do you mean Cheap Domestic flights that are on International legs? Because the domestic flights leaving from the domestic terminal won't have access to the new QF F lounge.

I feel the western dishes are a let down, I had the steak before and find the quality of meat to be bad. also they don't seem to change to menu for the past few months. I generally find the recent QF changes tot he F/J Class menu to be an overhyped. Although I must say the new F Class lounge is much better what they had before. |
