yes I think "shark's fin" (at least in Cantonese among the HK staff) is quite commonly used internally in CX to refer to that logo...

not just internally, but also for the public in hk, everyone know they are talking about CX when mentioning shark fin airline

The Cathay Pacific design brief was handled by Landor Associates - one of the world's leading design firms. That was money well spent as they are still using the designs after nearly ten years. And I think they can get another several years out of it as it is still modern and stylish.
