DCIR22 J class Cathay price?

Does anyone know the approximate cost of a DCIR22 J class purchased from Cathay Pacific?

I am looking to travel HKG-LAX-SYD-HKG or vice versa, and would be interested to know if the fare is the same price or less than a J Class HKG-LAX-HKG.

CX reservations didn't seem to want to give me a price over the phone without me faxing my route details to them and I can't be bothered dealing with the company travel agent at this stage....

As a side note, it seems that Cathay doesn't want to promote any of the OneWorld fares anymore. I couldn't find ANY details about them on their HK website.

Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post in....

I just had a quote in J class for:

HKG-SYD-LAX-SFO-HKG and the fare was HKD 41,190

HKG-LAX-HKG in J class is HKD 41,840

Hmmm...Something doesn't seem to be clear here. Which is your intended route?HKG-LAX-SYD-HKG, HKG-SYD-LAX-SFO-HKG, or HKG-LAX-HKG? They all seem to be in contrast to one another.

Sorry, my current intended itinerary is:

HKG-SYD-LAX-SFO-HKG

My point in quoting the HKG-LAX-HKG itinerary is that the cost of the circle pacific fare in J class is the same as a direct J class fare to LAX.

Whilst I don't have the fares handy, IME, the DCIRC22 is substantially cheaper than SYD-LAX-SYD in QF J.

I just received a re-quote from my work travel agent - the Circle Pacific fare is about HKD 33,500....much cheaper than the J class HKG-LAX direct.

No wonder CX doesn't promote these fares.

Having said that, there are restrictions on the Circle Pacific fare: non-reroutable, non-endorsable.

It's difficult for an airline to promote these fares to the general public. But it is the job of the agents to know what to sell when asked by their clients. Or that the client themselves to know what to ask. There are also the RTW fares... did you know about that? Or that there are other RTW that are not part of Oneworld.... or that there are visit North America passes, or Visit Europe passes... or there are promo joint fares between CX and SA. Basically there are way too many different types of fares for the average Joe to handle... but it's there...

Otherwise, there's always the Oneworld forum for your enquiries.

I think one of the reasons I'm a little surprised about Cathay not promoting these fares is that I'm certain that on the CX HK website about 2 years ago I saw these fares (not the actual prices, just the availability and rules) listed in their "Offers" section. When I went to have a look recently there is not one word mentioned about them. Particularly surprising considering the oneworld website tells us to check the websites of inidividual OW partners for details on the fares.

Yes you're right, they can't promote everything to everyone, but in the age of the internet-scouring-traveller, airline websites are one of the most effective marketing tools available to airlines, for very little marginal cost. You would think there would be some mention of these on the website.

As a comparison, on the QF website there is a section dedicated to the Oneworld explorer RTW fares, but nothing that I can find on the CX website. I suspect that maybe CX doesn't promote them due to the lower margins on these fares, but maybe it's just bad marketing.

To CX's credit, there is no mention of the circle pacific fares on the QF site.

I notice that CX do advertise the Explorer and Circle fares on their Bahrain site for some reason! Also, I see that they are offering a SIN-HKG-SIN package on the SIN site with a Sevens ticket thrown in for SGD799. If I could be bothered to go to the tournament next year, that's probably the only way I'd manage to get a ticket...

Then either the person who told you this is misinformed or they are talking about something different from the OneWorld Circle Pacific fare. The Star files for the CIrcle pacific fare are here: http://www.hardlink.com/~markdu/OWFiles/OneCirPac.html
from which you can see that rerouting is permitted at a charge of USD100, and the tickets are valid on any OneWorld airline.
