Amenity Kits

I just want to know are there any plans for CX to upgrade/replace the Delecor Amenity kits?

I read an article in this issue of the "Next" Magazine and they did a mini review on F Class on EK/CX/BA/SQ/JL

The CX Amenity kit does look a bit....
The Cologne in the men's kit is useless (as it is one of those testing tubes they give out at department store?) How come they can't give out a proper bottle (like SQ) with a proper dispenser?

I think for the men's kit it should contain items like Clarins Mens Range. ( I think QF is introducing it in F at the moment)

I do not use cologne on airplanes and I do not need to stuff my luggage with amenity kits as souvenirs - what I want are items that make sense to be used on the flight

According to a friend who's a cosmetologist, DECLEOR products are much more superior to CLARINS.

I always opt for the Women's kit over the Men's only because the former has better skin care products (samples) than the men's. DECLEOR is famed for their arometherapy skin care oils and they're unisex.

It also all depends on how long CX has contracted DECLEOR to supply their F cabins.

I totally agree with Guy Betsy that Decleor products are more superior than Clairns products. ^

In J class, CX uses Biotherm which I think are excellent as well. ^

I just wish SQ did something similar to CX in J class instead of handing those cheap looking socks and shades.

Er... why do you ALWAYS have to compare CX with SQ? Nobody here is even mentioning about the deficiencies of OTHER airlines. This post is about CX in particular and WE would appreciate if you can just stick with the facts.

You just flew LH didn't you? Why not say something about its Inflight Amenity Kit?

Hear hear. In this respect, CX falls far short of many other carriers, including AA, VS, and the old BAgs.

Do anyone remember the heavy wooden boxes a couple of years ago they gave out in First with Erno Laszlo stuff? Then they switched to La Prarie.

Business Class had L'Occitane which was much better than Biotherm. Unfortunately most people didn't know what L'Occitane was! Pity! Biotherm is so, well, common!

I still have an unopen box of Loccitane J Class in my closet.
I actually prefer the Bioterm products as I am not a fragrance, aroma oil person. But many people do like it..

Guy Betsy and others,

It is always good to compare CX and SQ in certain aspects of their product especially when most corporate travellers fly with these two airlines given their premium airline status in Asia and the world.

I must say that I prefer the Biotherm kit to that of L'Occitane. Look at what Qantas is giving their J class pax at the moment - samples of L'Occitane in foil wrap that one can obtain from any L'Occitane retail outlets. In comparison CX offers a better alternate to that of QF and many other airlines out there.

As for LH, well I can't say I will rave too much about their amenity kit because it is crap.

having recently flown CX F and BA F back-to-back, the BA F bag is so much nicer than the CX bag.

starting from the outside, and working our way into the contents....

1. the BA anya hindmarch bag is so luxurious and classy, whereas the CX one is bland and unimaginative. a bag similar to the BA bag retails for around HK$1000 at the anya hindmarch boutique. for those of you who prefer the classic anya hinmarch tassel zip pull, you can have your BA bag "upgraded" at your nearest a.h. boutique for HK$150.

2. the BA bag contains eye gel, face cleanser, and day cream by eve lom - in large portions, plus a big tub of carmex lip balm. compared with the CX version, which contains a very small tube of lip balm (0.08oz compared to BA's 0.25oz) and aftershave balm, BA's product is superior.

3. BA also has two aromatherapeutics sprays - one for moisture and one for sleep enhancement - i'm skeptical if they actually work, but they were great to play with inflight. on the other hand, the glass vial of CX oil didn't appeal to me at all.

4. it bothers me that the tube of sterlizing hand gel is bigger than everything else - i'd rather have a small tube of hand cream instead! who would bother rubbing their hands with that gel? it was a harsh reminder of the days of SARS when i was working in Queen Mary Hospital during the epidemic!

5. in my opinion, the eyeshades and socks from BA were of better quality too.

and if you look on ebay, the BA amenity kit is very popular and fetches decent prices, whereas the CX kit fares less well ....

i didn't bother bringing home the CX kit on both flights (except for the lip balm) but i asked for extra kits on my BA flights .... now i have five BA kits sitting side by side at home ......... :D

i really think CX should upgrade their kits - both the bag itself and the contents of the bag. what about a nice bag from shanghai tang to match their pyjamas? or better still, something in the same rank and calibre as anya hindmarch - i'm not expecting a free louis vuitton bag or gucci amenity kit, but if i'm paying so much for a CX F flight, shouldn't i be expecting something that i would like to take home with me?

CX has failed to impress me with their bag..... their service and product is superior, but their bag really doesn't match the rest of their product.

AviAsian Aug 23, 2004 7:49 am

I totally agree. I prefer the BA Andy Hindmarch First Class "BAg" than CX's Decleor kit. With BA's kit, you can reuse them and put more things into the bag than a normal amenity kit could fit. I use the BAg for my amenity when I travel. This is the only good point about BA's First Class.

As for service and product, I prefer CX's First Class anyday over other carriers and that includes SQ (just for you Guy Betsy). :D

Fly Cathay Pacific's First Class - the best way to travel in luxury!

VERY true - Four Seasons puts L'Occitane in regular rooms and Bulgari in suites - I always end up asking them to swap out the Bulgari!

Those were nice - I did actually take home a couple :D

Regarding the BAg, I really liked the quasi hard side ones from the previous kit since they empty made a great container for cables and electronic odds and ends for travel.
