L'Occitane have very good products. I should admit that the only times I use Bulgari toiletries is when I stay at The Fullerton Singapore, and IMHO L'Occitane is better & classier (though less expensive).

i'm definitely addicted to L'Occitane products. if only CX had L'Occitane in F instead of Decleor!

recommended items for all you people -

1. 100% shea butter - great for lips, cuticles, elbows ...... everywhere! it's non-shiny, so great for men who can't walk around with shiny lips.

2. shea butter hand cream - rich but light and non-sticky. always have a small tube with me inflight.

3. verbena shower/bath gel - verbena is a refreshing citrus scent that's great after a long day at work or after a flight!

4. verbena ice gel - a cooling refreshing gel with that wonderful scent ....

if you look at CX's competitors, almost all of them have better amenity kits ..... i really hope CX does something about it!

You should try L'Occitane Immortelle Vitality Serum for Body (a kind of Body Lotion) :).

Well, I'm pretty sure the sterilising hand gels are gone from the packs now. I was not impressed with the Biotherm kit, especially the male one distributed in J (which had next to nothing in it that was actually from Biotherm). I like the slippers CX give out in F though - my understanding is most other airlines distribute socks.

About a dozen airlines distribute slippers, but in OW only CX and IB have slippers (and IB has better quality slippers than CX, along with better PJs). SQ has sockettes (slipper sole but with knit booties) that are well done. AN, JL, LH, SA all have slippers, lots of others; but not in Oneworld.

I really agree with this point - my shoes come off IMMEDIATELY after the aircraft establishes a positive climb. I have no intention of going to the lav in my socks and I really hate going through the pain of putting my shoes back on - decent slippers are a civilized item in F

BA also gives out Slippers to NRT in both J and F. It comes in a seperate pouch to the MB Kit.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I rarely use the stuff in the amenty kits. I only need the eyeshades, ear plugs, and (sometimes but rarely) that lip balm. FWIW, I do like the hydrating mist stuff they put in the loos. Pathetic as it may seem, I have a collection of kits in the bottom of my closet missing the afore mentioned items. Why I cannot throw them away, I am not sure. Please tell me I am not the only one out there who does this. :o :o Since I am ranting, I would prefer L'Occtiane or Molton Brown, but more because that is what I am used to....

That being said, my two bits for CX/SQ debate: CX has the finest ear plugs I have ever recived from any airline. I am sure they were hand cut from only the finest poly-styrene and hand packed into the little plastic bag... :D

Actually I collect inflight kits and hand them out. I don't use them myself as I pack my own stuff stuffed in an "EMIRATES" black headphones cloth bag. Yes I swiped it!

In it are bare essentials:
1. Moisturiser for the dry airplane air. I use Pescriptives SuperFlight cream.
2. Facial Spray. I recommend Jurlique Travel Blend spray mist.
3. Intensified Eye Moisturizer by Neutrogena. Lasts 12 hours.
4. Lip Balm. I've used Biotherm long before CX gave it out in J class.
5. Saline Nasal Moisturisers. For dry nasal passages.
6. L'occitane lavender Hand cream.
7. Anti-oxidant capsules and sleeping tablets!
8. Ear plugs. (replaced after every flight)
9. Aveda Blue Oil relaxing oil to help one rest.
10.Australian Bush Flower Travel essence drops and cream.

The latter I recommend to anyone travelling. I hardly get jetlag due to these flower essences! Besides the drops helps in you balancing against radiation, jet vibration and basic auric damage when travelling over several time zones.

Now THAT qualifies as a proper first class amenity kit!!! Well done!

Excellent list, thanks.

Does the Jurlique have any taste? I have been using the Evian travel size for years and have always preferred it to others because it has no taste (unlike, for example, the foul stuff that Origins puts out and that sometimes shows up in amenity kits).

As for lip balm, have you tried Labello? (I find it to be the least waxy of any I've tried. Used to make Paris runs just for Labello and JPP socks, but now the Labello, at least, is available in N America.)

The Jurlique Travel Mist is hard to find except in Jurlique stores. It contains bergamot, grapefruit and lavender essential oils. These oils are excellent in refreshing not only one's face... but also one's mind. But for jetlag, I highly recommend the Australian Bush Flower essence travel drops and cream. It REALLY helps in combating jetlag. You may find this in various health food stores in Australia, or in USA - at Wholefood stores. If you can't find it, PM me and I'll let you know where you can find these.

I can't believe we have so many red-blooded males discussing this stuff. Whatever happened to Shield soap to wash our hair once a week? The metrosexual demographic, indeed.

christep Aug 26, 2004 12:07 pm

I have to say that I am with Pickles on this. A splash of water on the face and in extremis a dab of whatever moisturiser comes to hand is all a guy needs. The packs make great gifts though :)
