A330 Type 33A Seating in rows 11 and 12
Flying BKK to HKG on Sunday in one of CX's A330s, Type 33A, which is the former Cathay Dragon aircraft.
Rows 11 and 12, the lay-flat seats, have not been assigned but can't be chosen on-line. How do I get one of those seats as a oneworld Emerald but no status on CX? |
in chronological order:
1. Hotline agent 2. WhatsApp agent 3. Check in agent 4. Lounge agent 5. Gate agent 6. ISM 7. Just move there and pray that no one would notice |
Thanks.
What I was hoping to hear was, e.g., they open those seats up to anyone 48/24-hours in advance of the flight, at check-in or they are only available to CX elites. BTW, WhatsApp is just a Chatbot and is utterly useless. |
I am not sure about oneworld elites.
For DM, you can get those seats once you've booked your flights; while for GO, you can reserve them 48 hours before the departure (through hotline). |
I wasn't able to change to rows 11 or 12 on-line in advance.
During check-in, I was still unable to change to those rows. I called CX and they were able to assign me to my requested seat in Row 12. |
As things go . . .
CX cancelled my flight and moved to another an hour later. Same aircraft type. The difference? Rows 11 and 12 were already full . . . "We apologize for any inconvenience caused . . ." Sigh . . . |

I have tried few times for a flight next week, no dice - as BA GGL. Every time the answer is "computer says no"... Rather annoying to be honest

Suggest calling again as soon as on-line check-in opens 48-hours before departure. That worked for me.

Good shout - will try that :tu:
I am not sure if they only assign those seats to people with status or not. BTW, for the 2-1/2 hour flight from BKK to HKG, the regular type 33A business class seats were just OK. I would seek to avoid them when possible. |

I assume you have your BA number in the record?

Yes indeed - my BA GGL and my wife's BA Gold are both on there. Just got off the phone with CX after OLCI opened as you suggested, and it worked! We managed to get into 11D/G.
Thanks for your suggestion :) Excellent! |
I used to be able to get those from time of booking as a DM, for an upcoming flight with my wife (she is SL) same booking/PNR, the chat agent refused to assigned her those seat and told me she would have to wait until 48h before departure, should I try to contact another agent or is this the new policy?
|
Edit: according to #26, maybe I was wrong about GO on these seats on 33A.
