I thought someone had posted a map on here but I cannot find it here or on the HKIA website.

Anyway, I recall there was some time restriction on some transit areas but I docked at Gate 41 the other week and the transit area there was open despite it being in the late evening.

See #16, some of them may closed mid-day when there is not much traffic.

E and W are by far the most reliable as they are open 24 hours, the rest can be a bit hit-and-miss - this map is from the pre-pandemic era and I believe not all of the secondary transit channels have reopened to the hours indicated here (I used to love the transit channel between gates 61-63 - takes you straight up to The Pier!).

Note that to use any of these secondary transit channels you will need that onwards boarding pass for your next flight. If for some reason you don't have that boarding pass, hie thee to E or W.

Today at HKG, transfer point near Gate 62 under construction.

I am spending 14hrs from 6am in the morning.
I do not have status with Cathay - have some status with AA and have their Premier Plat MC.

Is there a lounge with shower facility?
Also which one is better recognized?

Will I able to buy lounge access with Miles/Points whatever?
Cost if you are two passengers?

If you are AA Platinum or higher and are flying on Cathay then you will have access with one guest to Cathay lounges (which have showers) before your flight. You cannot buy your way into Cathay lounges for money or AA miles/points.

If you do not have AA Platinum or higher status then the only option is the Plaza Premium lounges, which are pay-in, for money (not miles). Cost depends on how long you stay. Google Plaza Premium Hong Kong for details.

Note that the lounges are in the departures area of the airport and that once you have entered the departures area you can only leave by plane. It is not, in general, permitted to enter the departures area and then exit out to Hong Kong.

My inbound plane lands in HKG at 9:10 am and connecting flight departs at 4:05 pm on Thursday.

Would the 6h55m between flights be enough time to even consider adventuring out?

It’s a weekday - so have to consider traffic and also getting back thru security / immigration etc.

Other than spending time at Lounge any options airside?

if you’re EXP I don’t know why you’d bother - go on the HKG lounges grand tour, get the message, chill in a day room to next flight.

Take the Airport Express. It doesn't matter whether it's weekday or weekend. If you just want to be in downtown for a couple of hours, plenty of time.

Weekday irrelevant. Plenty of time and then some. See my post #88 (about 10 posts above) which includes bare minimums. Hard to beat HKiA for large airport efficiency, I think it's tops world overall and consistency in experience. Even Changi, with no offense to it, is inferior to HKiA T1. (Maybe I will incur some wrath for this one!)

(And the consistency part I think will go away once T2 airside opens. But that's another day )

Seen too many lounges - like to walk around before a 15+ hour (HKG to DFW) flight.

Some are reporting long line ups at transfer points:

These are the current times of the different security points.

E2 will not open again until August, hopefully with the new scanners that do not require to take things out of the bags.

Not clear if or when the transfer point near gate 65 will open again.

Worth noting in which gate one arrives in order to take the best strategy deciding which transfer point to use, as not always the one "suggested" by the airport signalisation is the best one.
