I hope Iberia allowed some sort of extended earning period for you, because this is really a customer-unfriendly practice of CX, disrupting partner earn.

Dear all, I truly appreciate your responses and the information you’ve shared. I once flew PE on a trip from FRA to HKG (Seat 30A) and earned 500 Elite points for Iberia. Initially, the aircraft was scheduled to be an Airbus A350-1000, but it was changed to a Boeing 777-300 by the time of the flight. The experience wasn’t significantly different from Economy, though it was acceptable at a cost of 2.5 euros per point. However, this time, it would have cost 13 euros per point, which is less appealing. Usually I pay 1.1 euro per point when I fly with Iberia.
For this journey, I booked my ticket over six months in advance, initially expecting to fly on an Airbus A350-1000. I selected seat 60A in Economy Flex. However, I noticed the aircraft was changed again to a Boeing 777-300. Before the flight, I contacted Iberia to confirm how many Elite points I would earn, but the answers varied. I assumed I would receive 400 Elite points for this flight, which would have been more than enough for the 200 Elite points needed for an upgrade to Iberia + Platino (OWE). It’s been a learning experience. Moving forward, if I need flexibility and more Status points for CX, I’ll book Economy Flex, but if I’m crediting points to Iberia, I’ll opt for PE. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/36132895-post11.html The only 'complicated' part is confirming which economy fares fall into full fare vs discount buckets. If you got 500 EP for a PE flight once before, that would mean 425 EP for the FRA-HKG leg + a 601-1500 mile flight in full fare economy on one end for 75 EP. |

The math seems a bit off though. How did OP get 100 EP if FRA-HKG is under 6000 miles? Should receive 90 EP according to the chart. Either way 100 or 110 more EP aren't too difficult to gain. |

There is no scenario where Y earns more EP on IB than W, even if it's full fare economy. The chart is pretty straightforward:

Thanks for the update.
Interesting that IB counts FRA-HKG in the 6000+ band since it's over 300 miles short of that threshold. That's far from the first IB IT easter egg, at least this time it's in the customer's favor! |

I think I noticed on the touchscreen entertainment system onboard Cathay Pacific that the flight distance from FRA to HKG is over 6,000 miles. I will take a photo on 13-FEB-2025 during my return trip to confirm this.
