BKK to MNL

Does anyone know what the seats are on the Airbus 330 flights from BKK to HKG and then to MNL? Seat Guru shows that they have two types in business. One is the 1-2-1 and then the 2-2-2 ones.
I am planning to buy one today.

When you buy ticket, you should be able to view the seating plan of that particular aircraft.

That's quite a long 9-12+ hrs journey just to get MNL

Might as well just take TG

Yes that's the eventual decision that is wise. It is about USD 770 return on business and I do not have any time factor involved so was looking to see if I can get some points that I can get by flying on business on CX. I might take Air Asia as there is around 3500 baht direct and so about 7400 baht return.

Or is it worth taking the business class on CX? The points would be total about 120 and another trip to SIN and back might get me close to 200 points? So I think 300 is when it gets to silver?

I've done this route twice, recently -- also to earn SPs. The detour/ longer flights are a drag, but tolerable in J. The MNL-HKG sectors are almost always the dreaded 33P (2-2-2) or the tiny 321 (2-2). Feels like a crowded bus, even in J. The HKG-BKK flights are sometimes on the 359 (nice!) or newer 330s, but sometimes they use the 77Ps (also 2-2-2). Check when you book, though of course plane type changes are frequent on these shorter routes.

if mileage run is urr intent there are better ways to earn than BKK HKG MNL..

Seatguru is not good. Aerolopa.com is much better.
On Expertflyer, most A333 scheduled are the longhaul config (1x2x1) but the regional config can often be substituted days before the flight.

AirAsia seems USD540 cheaper but you have to factor in all the additional costs if you wish a good seat, checked bag, food/drink, etc...
770 is quite a good deal if you need the points.

Remember that Silver does not bring you great benefits. And only CX lounge access.

I have to go to MNL no matter what and was since looking to earn a bit of points on CX thought it may be the best option?

Thanks and I am now inclining that way too. I would be able to get to a silver very soon and I think one long haul to YYZ return can be get up to a gold or pretty close to that? Still in a dilemma too. I have done this trip so many times on Air Asia and it is not a bad flight if I get the exit row and no one sits next to me. The CX has a 50 mins connection time and I am worried about my bags not making it at HKG. That is the return flight out of MNL to HKG and then to BKK. MNL invariably will have a delay so that 50 mins may not be enough.

I take this route a couple of times a year to visit friends in Bangkok, do some shopping and indulge in Thai food. I usually spend the night in HK to check my flat, pick up any mail and pop into the bank etc. if I so wish. Last year MNL/HKG and vv sectors have been more than 50% 33Ps. I make sure that I avoid the beer can flights 906/907 and 913/976. I used to like 906 but no more. HKG/BKK and vv recently only had the excellent A350 on the SIN connectors so I have flown HKG/BKK at a reasonable time in the morning and BKK/HKG a little later than I would really like in the afternoon. I recently checked for my trip in January and was amazed to find that all four sectors were being offered on multiple flights with the excellent LH seat. I booked flights at my preferred times, blessed CX and will now cross my fingers. As a bonus the cost, including the extra tax for overnighting in HK both ways, was less than that for TGs direct service.

I've found that CX Silver does have some useful benefits. Business class check-in, boarding and lounge access all make the airport experience much better. However, if you are talking about onboard benefits / recognition / upgrades then yes, Silver doesn't have a huge impact.

Yup this happened to me. Thought I'd be rebooked onto next flight (leaving an hour later), but was escorted through security and we ran through the terminal. At the gate I was the last to board and I asked, will my bag make it? "Of course!" was the confident reply. Upon arrival in BKK, my heart sank as I walked to the carousel and saw a lady with a sign with my name on it. Had to fill out forms, and was promised it would be delivered "tonight!" At my hotel, I waited till midnight, nada. But when I woke up at 7am, it had been delivered and it was brought up to my room. FYI. YMMV.

The idea is to get to G on CX as I have a G on BR already extended for next year. CX because then I get a Oneworld who has PE and who flies in Asia too.

This is giving me a lot of indecisions and indigestions too. :D

Why the indecision? CX sounds like a good deal here and you are chasing status. Why not just give it a try this time and then you know for future, one way or the other?
