full refund of $ and miles came back in less than 7 days. miles now have new expiration in 2024 everything works well as i was advised to do in this thread. thank you for the help! |
I am in the same situation with 40,000 new miles expiring end of Nov.
Looking at the retail options and I see the option to use miles to offset carbon emissions. This is a minimum of just 100 miles it seems. Will this work for resetting miles expiry? |

If you have 40k miles expiring then all must be spent. You want to spend 40k miles on carbon offsets?

These are "new miles" so I thought you just need to have account activity to reset expiry for all the miles? So a 100 mile deduction should work if it credits in time. Am I wrong about this?
|
I can confirm that the 100-mile carbon offsets deduction works to extend miles. I had 300k new miles expiring and by doing a 100-mile deduction, they are extended by another 18 months now. The extension was instant.

Sorry I know this is not the correct thread for the question, but any help welcome.

1.5 years, but it can be extended with a new activity, like the one above your post.
120USD or 17000AM to cancel and 50USD or 7500AM to change per https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_...-and-fees.html |

I did find the same info but was not sure - Do the free 24 hr cancels work for US residents? or is it 120$ no matter what? I waited 48 hrs - no effect - called Amex and did a transfer Thursday Night - points in my account on Sat AM - booked a 61k redemption on BA with only 244$ taxes! Feels like the promised land! - I have been using AA and BA accounts for years (including transfers from Amex to Avios) Amex to cathay seems much better option for Ex -US flights 250$ vs 750$ fees on awards (UA may be still better at 70k with 5$ fees outbound to UK) Ex UK - Still seems a good option - 61k + about 500$ taxes So the best current options US -> UK / Paris and return are as follows - Skyteam 2600 = 1350+1250 - VS 48k +877 return to US 48k+629GBP = about 750 USD (although with Capital One bonus it is 36k) 2400= 1100+1300 - AF 90k+200 on VS/DL return to US 78k+527$ but 70k on AF to CDG Oneworld 2000 = 860+1130 CX 61k + 250 return to US 61k+520$ (cost 1c using Capital One) 3200 = 1750+ 1650 - AA 58k+750 return to US 58k+667$ (assuming cost 1.8c during sale) 3700 = 2000+ 1700 AS 60k+890 return to US 60k+682 (assuming sale price 1.8c) 2300 = 1150 +1150 BA 80k+350 return to US 80k+350$ (1c cost via Cap One or Citi to QR) EY- 50k+105$ on AA - (never going to happen) Star 2900 = 1350+1650 UA- 74k+5$ return to US 74k+315$ (UA mile sales @1.8c) 1750 = 650 + 1100 = AC 60k+76$ on same UA flight return on SK 70k+468$C to 90k +471C$ (1c cost via Cap One) 1500 = 750+750 TK- 45k each way - but I have horrendous experiences booking for others - for oneself it is OK 1500 = Lifemiles but terrible call center |

For this amount of miles to extend, buy a one-way HKG-TPE PEY Flex ticket will work. Refund the ticket on 1 Nov. Simple and easy.
