SCMP and Exec Traveller: CX to absorb KUL, Hanoi, Fukuoka, Kaohsiung routes
Great to see CX stepping in to formally fold these routes into its network. Looking forward to more formalized route announcements soon, as CX absorbs the rest of the KA network.... which routes will likely be next?
A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific confirmed to Executive Traveller that the airline will step back into the Hong Kong - Kuala Lumpur corridor. Hanoi, Fukuoka and Kaohsiung will also come under Cathay's wing, reports The South China Morning Post. Also: https://www.executivetraveller.com/n...-cathay-dragon |

Wondering whether CX will still serve CRK. Will it be flown by CX or HX?

I hope the PEN-HKG route goes back to CX as well... t'was popular with holidaymakers and especially the MNC crowd en-route to China and the USA.
|
I am not playing the game of which old KA destination is next to come back but simply ask
Is Chengu an important commercial destination or just a tourist route - ie ? not worth taking back . |

Is Chengu an important commercial destination or just a tourist route - ie ? not worth taking back . It is the capital of Sichuan and the 6th largest city in China. Its economy is thriving and diverse. In 2019 it was the fourth busiest Chinese airport.(fifth if you include HKG). |
Ta , I did mean Chengdu .
|
all I’m waiting to find out about is DVO, but I imagine that will be one of these last hashed out.
|
While I’m glad to see CX returning to all these ports, I wonder whether they are approved by the authority or just pure wish of CX.
|
sorry, double post

I saw that CX announced HKG-KHH flights for two saturdays in November but can't find any flights for Dec. I was wondering if anyone could point me at any announcements for HKG-KHH in Dec or hereafter? Thanks!

These photos were published on CX Facebook, flight from KHH to HKG dated on November 21th. As we can see, the uniform of crew were in CX , and flight number was CX 431. This route was completely transferred into CX. No more KA though the crew were still the previous KA ones.

CX scheduled 2 cargo-only passenger flights to Kathmandu, Nepal. Another destination previously served by KA will be resumed by CX. |

Apple Daily HK: For flight rights of 46 routes KA returned, CX is to apply for 25 routes, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Tokyo, Kolkata, etc. UO is apply for the other 21 routes, including Guilin, Ningbo, Taichung, Phnom Penh (Cambodia), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Medan (Indonesia), Okinawa (Japan), etc. HX also applies for several routes, and most of the destinations are outside China. |

CX scheduled one cargo-only passenger flight to Bangalore, India. It seemed that CX successfully got flight rights to India previously owned by KA. |
when/if comes back the third HND redeye on CX metal offers a viable alternative to NRT redeye, if its on LH product

CX scheduled a few cargo-only passenger flights to Xiamen, China. This is the first destination in Mainland China resumed by CX. |
CX posted about the return to Xiamen on Weibo (social media in Mainland China). https://weibo.com/1684936355/JDWCg5tYa
It is also very interesting that the ground workers at Xiamen airport dressed full PPE to handle cargo from outside China. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...b076713cac.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...49436c4045.jpg |

Afaik CX has been operating cargo flights to Xiamen for a while now anyway? Don't think this indicates anything regarding future passenger operations.

This flight uses ex-KA slots. It flight also hints that the Mainland Authority allows CX to inherit flight rights from KA.
With hindsight, CX should have touch bases with the authorities before giving up KA, especially when Air China is one of the shareholders of CX group. |

I don’t see HAN listed on the CX website at all, nor does HK-HAN show up for CX on google flights. Is this just a COVID restriction relic or is CX not actually restarting on that route?

Here we go. CX will operate one passenger flight from Xiamen to Hong Kong on Feb 2. |
Here we go: CAAC, the Mainland regulator, officially approved CX operating 15 routes in Mainland China previously operated by KA.
http://www.caac.gov.cn/XXGK/XXGK/TZT...4127705510.pdf 15 destinations include Fuzhou, Qingdao, Xiamen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Zhengzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Xi'an, Wuhan, Wenzhou, Ningbo, Haikou, Sanya and Chongqing. The 6 destinations in Mainland but CX not applying are Jinan, Kunming, Changsha, Guilin and Nanning. These cities seem to have little demand for business traveling. |

It remains to be seen if UO will apply to tourist destinations such as Kunming or Guilin. Bit that is for 2022 or later. |

Very good news! Really excited that Cathay was able to retain most of KA's mainland routes!

Very good to know the green lights given to CX. On the other hand, it’s interesting to see CX bid for Guangzhou but not even Changsha.
Changsha on the other hand would naturally have much less transfer passengers. For O/D traffic, Changsha actually is one of the few routes outside Guangdong where the highspeed train is somewhat competitive in terms of travel times. |
