Changing a Open Jaw ticket
Asking for experience. I'm looking to change a open jaw ticket with CX, I need to get rid of the PVG-HKG leg and just return it to a standard LHR-HKG round trip. Anyone done something similar before? Was it possible? Shall I expect a massive fare change?
Just for clarification, my original booking is LHR-HKG then PVG-LHR via HKG so it’s Ex LHR and booked from UK and I haven’t departed yet. |

Search for your new route as if you were buying a new ticket. This is likely to be your new fare plus whatever change fees are applicable. This assumes your ticket is refundable/changeable. |

Without date of original purchase, departure date, and fare basis, no one can help you.
purchased in march, flight 24th August |
Be ready for a hefty cost.
As sxc suggests, you can get some idea of the fare differential itself. |
Yes it's going to be expensive. You are currently fared LHR-PVG, with a stopover in HKG. LHR-HKG is a completely different fare and it's going to be nearly twice as expensive (assuming I inventory is available for your travel dates). Also, your ticket has a 350 GBP change fee.

Fare ILAURGB8
purchased in march, flight 24th August As you are re-routing, if you change now, you can only use current fare to re-price, so it will be expensive. Look at the bolded part below for details. Code:

If you wait till you got to PVG and then change the inbound, you can use historical fare, and in that case, I think the 350GBP change fee is all you have to pay, although I'm not 100% sure how CX interprets "NEW TICKET MUST BE EQUAL OR HIGHER VALUE THAN THE PREVIOUS TICKET". I hope it just means that you cannot get any refund. However, you risk not having inbound I class availability the date / flight you want. I would say pay close attention to any tool you might have that has accurate UK POS availability.

As I read the OP, he's not going to PVG, that's the issue.
Are you going to PVG, or just HKG? If you're not going to PVG, you'll have to refare the ticket. |

Ok I re-read the post. If I understand correctly, OP has a ticket of LHR-HKG//PVG-xHKG-LHR and want to change it to LHR-HKG-LHR. In this case, of course OP can change it when he arrives at HKG, provided that there's I class on the day he wants to fly inbound.

OP's current fare ( ILAURGB8) is an LHR-PVG fare. LHR-HKG (no PVG) is a completely different fare. It's going to refare.

Yes, a re-fare would be needed, but after the first segment is used, historical fare at the time of original ticket purchase can be used.

Not surprisingly, the historical fare LHR-HKG is nearly 2x the LHR-PVG fare.
That's what that language typically means. You apply the ticket value to the new fare, but no refund if the new fare is cheaper. I have the same interpretation as yours, but we are not CX and it is up to CX to interpret. |

No, the historical fare for LHR-HKG is cheaper than LHR-PVG for I class. See my post above.
