Firstly, 2 separate PNR’s you’re not connecting.

You’re flying Y, getting off will take at least 10 mins on a full 77W.

HKG is a very big airport and you will need to get through transit security and then make your way to the next gate which could be a fair way away.
I highly doubt CX will meet you, you’re not a connecting passenger nor even coming in on a CX flight.

CX shuts the door 10 mins before departure so you have 25 mins to:

- get off the aircraft (-10);
- clear transit security (-10);
- get to the next gate (walk or take the underground train but may have to wait for that) - you might be lucky and get a nearby gate or you might need to go all the way to 40’s or 60’s gates.

I’m sorry but the odds are terrible.

Hi,

I am in a similar situation as the OP (own fault, messed up the dates with crossing the dateline). I am on two separate PNRs which connect in HKG under MCT (35min connection time, I know its a tight connection). I arrive on AA from LAX which is usually early and connect to a CX flight to BKK. Both are paid tickets in Economy and I have an OW Emerald (non CX). I got so far 3 different answers to my questions from US Hotline, HK Hotline, and US CX airport staff. Maybe someone here has experiences:

1) Does CX provide meet and assist to escort me through security in this situation? I got the CX hotline to annotate my ticket with this request.

2) In case I miss the flight I will be at mercy of CX staff. Whats the worst case? I will have to pay no-show fee, rebooking fee, and upsell to a higher fare class? Plus maybe not get on a flight the same day, although unrealistic as there are plenty of flights to BKK.

3) In case I miss the flight, what is the best place to do the rebook? Transfer before security, CX F lounge (I will have a mobile BP so I will get airside), or at the gate?

Thanks a lot for your replies in advance. I am currently considering if I should bite the bullet and pay the change fee & upsell right away and rebook to a later flight.

Edit: Of course I have no checked bags.

It is not just a tight connection. It is an "illegal" connection. So I am uncertain if CX will provide meet and assist.. I don't think you can make it unless the AA flight arrives very much ahead of schedule.

Who issued the CX flight? Given you're Emerald, CX staffs are known to be a but relaxing but then again its an illegal connection after all.

Ticket was initially changed by CX staff at JFK airport, they were aware of my AA flight.

Nevertheless, the US hotline found some availability in my farebucket at a later flight and was so nice to waive the change fee. Great service from CX given that they didn’t owe me anything.

Thanks a lot for all your replies.

I can confirm this is true. CX Transfer Desk said this is no longer possible when i approached them upon arrival at HKG. Instead the lady said, please claim bag and check back in departure. and oh you have 90 minutes to do this. ha.

So off to Immigration (e-channel is key to this being successful), on to the luggage carousel (of which luggage just came out), and to Departure level. Head to counter, dropped bags then off to security, echannel, lounge for a quick shower, bite to eat, and gate to flight to Manila via CX (just across lounge).

On my return flight, CX counter in Manila checked me although to LAX and even issued my AA boarding pass. That OneWorld rule definitely is a hassle.
