I agree that the monitors on the CX 777 are pretty bad. The CX A350 is an improvement.

However, this issue is not confined to CX. I recently flew an AA 788 in J and the screen quality was not very good. Resolution was decent (maybe 720p), but the black levels were horribly crushed. Maybe the screen was defective, but dark scenes were almost unwatchable.

Have you been on a BA747? The screen is tiny and has a resolution probably akin to 480p. It's like watching a tape on an old CRT screen. Walking through J it's bigger screens also at 480p.

IIRC, they refreshed the seats and IFE on the high-J configured frames.

Ahh I have not been on the super J, just the original config with the bad IFE.

Some may forget that replacing PTVs on aircrafts are not as simple as going to Fortress and buying the latest 4K OLED display and mounting on it on their living room wall.

CX has a lot of things they need to improve on but I'd want them to focus more on inflight catering, cabin cleanliness first before replacing a working PTV.

Plus let's be fair, the old generation JCL PTVs though old, isn't really outdated/obsolete. I do recall QR's 77Ws with 2-2-2 config use similar screens.

All the above mentioned aircraft have almost brand new cabin designs and therefore TVs. CX has 10 year old seats that are still amongst the class leaders. They will be refreshed when the 77X starts flying but there is no requirement to do so now. Honestly, the resolution is no where near as bad as you are making out.
