While FT is popular in the U.S., keep in mind AM is a Hong Kong-based program.
It is better to presume that it is a Hong Kong credit card rather than one from the U.S. |

Huh? I don't follow your logic. If FT is more popular in the U.S. than it is in HKG (i.e., there are more American FTers than HKG FTers), the FT reader is more likely to be an American, and thus the credit card is more likely to be from the U.S.

No need to follow, as this was not pointed at you.
Sorry for intruding. |
no insults to anyone (tho gary sometimes do bug me, but that's not important here)
reading the OP's past post gives an impression (he) is asia based. so assuming a US cc is not the best option. that said, it's a good reference for anyone with a USD card in the future who flies CX and expects a refund in 7 days (legally) OTOH, consumer protection is good as sh!t in hong kong. Apple just took away product refund and noone gave a cr@p. |

1. Consumer protection law in Hong Kong is developing because the government acted slowly. But once implemented, it seems that the law is very aggressive. 2. Apple took away the refund to avoid sudden profits from iPhone, which is fair considering the market. |

Does itinerary involve a US point? If so, US laws require carrier to post refund to credit card within 7 business days.
And yes, I've always gotten refund very fast. This is the first time it's stuck in limbo. Anyway, AMEX opened a case for me and now I'm off the hook for the big charge, now I hope AMEX can sort it out with Cathay. |

Yes, it's a US-based credit card (better benefits) and I do have US residence so I usually carry around US-based cards for purchases.

in fairness Amex in hk (presume thats the dealing entity) is fairly good with these instances... i basically told them its your problem and they took care. as much as people laugh i find Amex to be rather competent.

As for the OP, I guess CX should be able to provide you some form of written confirmation that they did the transfer. That would tell you right away where the money is, on CX side or on your cc company side. But in general CX is quite refunding. I had to refund a ticket in august. refund was posted on my cc few days later |

you could also argue with amex that original transaction to be treated as disputed charges. that way amex will chase CX for money.
long story short CX wont give you anything apart from horrow promise. this is where amex does the job for you |

This is the part I'm most confused with. I've called Cathay many times asking for anything written to prove they have refunded the money, so I can ask AMEX to confirm. Cathay refused (my many requests) and basically declaring their words of the refund being processed on August 23rd is proof enough.

I spoke with AMEX here in the Philippines which is handled by BDO, they told me it takes 21 business days after recieving reversal request from CX....i guess Id have to wait a little bit longer for mine.

A bit OT, but yeah I hate reversals here in the PH, it takes longer than other places. My US cards only take 1-2 weeks vs. 3-4 weeks for my PH cards.
