CX Award
Hi All,
First time posting in the CX forum. I'm planning to fly from CNS-HKG via CX0146(A330) in J or should i fly from SYD-HKG on a 777 in J? Is it worth to get a one way ticket from CNS-SYD to fly on the 777? my actual routing ends in SFO, so the flights would look like CNS/SYD-HKG-SFO. My priorities are comfort and service. Thanks |

Flying CNS-SYD is going 1222 miles (~2.5hrs) in the wrong direction, which you then just fly back. CNS-SYD-HKG-SFO & CNS-HKG-SFO At SYD the domestic to international transfer is best avoided. International and Domestic terminals are opposite and across Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport, 4km / 2.5 miles away. You are unlikely to be on 1 ticket. QF will not transfer checked luggage on separate tickets, so you will need to make your own way to T1. VA will be no better. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ocean...transport.html I happily pay good money to avoid SYD transits |
Since your priorities are comfort and service, we can safely say service on CX is pretty much the same on all aircraft types. So your key priority is comfort.
Considering you need to travel 3 hours CNS-SYD on a narrow body and then go thru SYD domestic international transfer, this itself probably don't meet your priority anyway. |

Price is ridiculous for a 2 minute transfer but the train domestic<->international is pretty easy. Again with all that being said I wouldn't bother for the difference between a330 and 777. If it was a J vs F discussion then yes. |

If you have carry on only: Yes If you have checked luggage: No. You have to go landside T3 to collect and will not be able to go back T3 airside to get the QF bus from T3 gate 15. But if your checked baggage is small may be able to through security to air side T3 gate 15.

The difference between J on A330 and 777 is minimal, especially for a short flight like CNS-HKG

Thank you all for the comments. I will fly CNS-HKG-SFO! This will all be in J, but if HKG-SFO has F availability, I can use my AS miles to upgrade right? I'm using AS miles for the redemption.

But I'd reckon that you'll need to book an F award all the way CNS-SFO and settle for a J seat for the first leg.. |

1) Only Cathay's Asia Miles can be used to upgrade an existing ticket, no other currency. 2) Award tickets of any type cannot be further upgraded with miles. 3) There are additional restrictions, but #1 and #2 should have you answered. |
