Baggage allowance confusion

Looking to travel on Cathay in April from Sydney to HK then to Shanghai, flying in economy. As far as I can tell, it's not a codeshare flight.

On my eticket, under "Bag", it says that I have an allowance of "30K" and it says 30kg on the Qantas membership site (I've linked my QFF number).

However, the Cathay website says that economy is only allowed 20kg and I don't have enough status on any membership program that would give me any upgrade in the check-in baggage allowance.

Should according to the first leg

Sorry, I know Cathay is my carrier. The question I have is over the inconsistency in baggage allowance between what's stated on their website and what's stated on my e-ticket.

That looks like an error on the ticket. Who issued it?

Booked via Cathay's own website.

If no one has experience with this, then I'll call up and confirm - was hoping someone would be able to say that they've honoured the eticket limit in the past.

If it's issued by Cathay's website then they have to honour what's printed on the ticket!

Edit: is it a student fare? They come with a higher baggage allowance I believe.

hi lolcoaster,

In NZ, about a few months ago back to 2015, CX promoted a special fare from Akl to PVG or Beijing via Hk at about NZD 12xx in economy S or N class ticket and you could get 30kg baggage allowance in total by weight system to Shanghai or Beijing as published in the CX website (Normal baggage allowance from Auckland to Hk sector is 1 piece not over 23kg in Y class ). So in your case, as the baggage allowance illustrated in your eticket should be right. But for your security, it is best to email cx quoting your etickt # and cx booking reference for the final confirmation.

Cheers

Further to my last reply,CX website in NZ has a Q fare from NZ to China, Beijing/Shanghai/Chengdu, which also stated Pax can take 30 Kg baggage. See the link below :

It is 30KG

It always has been 30KG for Australia - China (via HK) for competition reason. As all of the chinese carriers are giving 46kg of checked in luggage (23kg x 2). It will be 30KG for all of your legs and some times you will need to remind the check in counter about your luggage allowance.

Same problem

I have the same problem with the discrepancy in the two places. My ticket says 30k and the terms say 20kg!! What happened with you? Did you get to take the full 30kg checked in?

If your ticket says 30, it will be 30

If that is on the e-ticket from CX, then it will be 30kg. If it is a receipt from your TA, then you may need to confirm again. Bring your ticket with you at check-in.

Cathay Pacific 20kg/30Kg

I booked it through the Cathay Pacific website so its one of their own eticket. What bugs me is the fine print on the next page! Hopefully they'll honour whats printed on the face of the ticket!

infinitium Sep 13, 2016 11:41 pm

They HAVE to honor what's printed on the ticket. If they don't, I would kick up a very royal fuss - and insist on seeing the MOD and escalating this via MPC when I get back.
