Differences (besides dep time):
*The later flight isn't daily yet, so heads up if you change dates. *CX893 uses 77G (3 class plane), while CX873 uses 77H (4 class plane). For PEY purposes, the cabin is slightly different due to plane configs. Specifically, there is no separate bathroom in the 77G PEY section. 77H's PEY section has a single deficated bathroom on the right side of the plane. As a heads up, the poster above who didn't like the single PEY bathroom on one side seems to have ridden 77H since as mentioned above 77G doesn't have a bathroom in the PEY cabin (nor do any of the A330 configs for that matter). As the poster mentioned, since it's on the right forward side and there is no easy crossing access, it appears common for left-hand side pax to walk in front of middle bulkhead pax. I'm not too familiar with PEY longhaul, but off the top of my head 77H could be an advantage if you're seated away from the bathroom on the right side (to avoid walking over people). On the flip side it might be a disadvantage to have a bathroom if you're in the bulkhead or are on the left side and will find it awkwad to walk over pax. (I am curious if its a big disadvantage to sit in the bulkhead on 77H PEY, seems like it). regardless it seems like a small point since you can use the regular economy bathrooms as well. |

Not sure about my first CX flight now!
So have my first CX flight later in the year from LHR - SYD and back. Having flown J on BA/QR/EK so far this year can confirm my favourite is QR with the planes (388/788). Hard product very good, dine on demand is truly that even if you decided to frequent the onboard bar and end up chatting to fellow pax. BA still have the edge on tone and quality of crew and EK was functional but just a little bling for me personally
Food not the key when choosing airlines but as I'm going to be spending hours in the air (outbound is straight through with 90m connection in HKG) am hoping the food quality and IFE improves - oh and clearly bring my own cruet set and nuts! 😉 |

TBH, with that many meals (plus the lounge) you won't go hungry - you might even choose to skip one or two (which you can easily do on CX as you're not tempted by anything 'amazing'). |

Just trying to give the poster accurate info. I don't fly PeY much myself, but I read this forum enough to feel comfortable saying this is what happens. Makes sense too considering the layout of the plane. Even if a PEY pax goes back through the curtain to economy, there isn't a galley there....just a bulkhead. To not disturb anyone you'd have to walk to the back of PEY, through the curtain, through the first EY section, through the galley, back up through a few rows of EY, then the curtain again, and finally PEY to get to the bathroom. I kinda get it why folks prefer to trapse over the PEY front row, even though I'm sure it isn't polite. |

As I've noted in another thread, AC has PE/PY in all of it's 788s, 789s. Plus, the entire 777 fleet (3 versions) have been completely refurbished so the cabins now have the "Dreamcabin" interior that is in its 788/9s. There is a slight configuration difference in terms of # of J pods per aircraft and # PE. The 788/9s have 21 PE/PY in a 2-3-2 and they are fantastic seats. Given the size of the aircraft, in the 77s, it's 2-4-2. The main difference is that on the 77s there are no dedicated lavs for PE. Until more of the 788/9s are delivered by Boeing, PE is only sold on international flights. When the aircraft do domestic runs, the seats are considered as "Preferred" seats and there is a fee. On some routes I've flown - especially most of 2015 to NRT - I took a short walk to count PE pax. It was never more than 8 of 21 filled. As for price-point, it was all over the map, suggesting to me that revenue management was having a tough time deciding where to price it. On some routes, it fills up, not on others. As for fares, you can often find PE for the same or less than the economy fare. I recently did LH F FRA-SIN on their 380 and had a chance to walk the cabin before pax boarded and got some photos of their J and PE seats. First photo is the LH J on the 380 Then the LH PE/PY on the 380 The rest are the PE/PY on AC's 788/9s . |
