Sounds about right. The SCMP reported that the most senior CX pilots earned around HK$3 million in total package during the pilots' strike several years back. They lost a lot of public sympathy when this came out as typical senior pilots in the USA get something like US$150-200k p.a.

See note 28 on page 80, the remuneration of all employees are broken down by bands http://www.hkexnews.hk/listedco/list...0140402579.pdf . 20K of the 22-23K staff make <HK$1M

Hmmm. The salaries are honestly lower than I expected. Smisek (UA) clears close to HK$46-47m (including bonus+stock) in 2012, compared to a (relatively meager in comparison) HK$15.7m for John Slosar and a (practically improverished) HK$5.6m for Ivan Chu.

Many US Fortune 500 CEOs make $1 in salary (they need a figure for IRS purposes), but all of their "income" comes in stock options, bonuses, etc. This is due to US have a very high progressive income tax rate for the top earners, but a relative lower capital gains tax rate, so CEOs prefers to be paid in capitals.

Other nations that have lower income tax rates may have CEOs that prefers to be paid in actual salary.

Sorry, I misused the word salary there. I meant total comp - salary wise, Smisek has about US$975k, which is about... HK$7.5m? Roughly? But the numbers I had previously listed was total comp.

As the original question has been answered, I'm closing this thread before it goes too far off topic.
