My solution would be to follow BA's lead at LHR and JFK: make the current F part of the Wing for passengers flying in F (and perhaps CX Emeralds flying in C) and make the downstairs C lounge the new F lounge lounge for all other Emeralds.

Bottom line is that CX doesn't have the capacity at HKG to meet the demand for those entitled to F lounge access under oneworld rules.

CX could do this easily since BA has already set the precedent.

IIRC I think there is more than just the lounge renewal. There are some airport terminal reconfigurations underway that accelerated the lounge closure. Possibly related to the new midfield terminal?

Speaking of midfield terminal, would there be lounges there?

I'm sure someone would build one...

+1.

There would need to be some provision for CX DMs as you mention, given CX's new 77G (3 class plane, no F) lacks F entirely. The amount of 77Gs in service is expanding rapidly, and with it the number of destinations that don't get F class service. Still plenty of folks who drop a pretty penny on CX but simply don't have F service to their destination (or at a timing that doesn't work).

I've heard in the past that CX would like to keep everything under one roof. There are no plans at the moment to build a lounge in the midfield concourse.

CX likes to keep everything under one roof huh. So CX will not have any of their planes park at mid-field gates then?

From the conversations I've had, that's their goal. Is it realistic? With all the flights they've been adding as of late, probably not.

If CX has enough pull with HKIA and convince them to move other airlines to midfield gateways, then HKIA Terminal 1 has plenty of room for all CX flights. It may even become exclusive CX Terminal like so many Airports in the USA have exclusive terminals for their hub airline.

recently it seems like CX is in fact spending a lot of money on lounges at HKG...

although with more than 30 million passengers this year, more lounges at HKG would not surprise me

are they going to renovate G16?

Is G-16 still operated by KA? All the CX staff insists that G-16 is a KA-lounge.

G16 is indeed staffed by ladies/men wearing the KA uniforms. I don't know the details of staffing, but from the looks of their uniforms I'd say it is.

As recently as a few weeks ago when I was last in there.

G16 is KA lounge, but they have room to expand since I don't see China using next door anymore and it seems to be empty everytime I go to G16. Would CX just grab it and maybe turn that into another F class lounge?
