Thanks again all, most helpful. Weirdly this is a new situation for me - in all my years in HK I have never had to interline before. The reason being is that I'm stumping up my own cash for J to the UK and I discovered an excellent deal with BA out of BKK. Certainly rather less jaw-dropping than the J prices CX are quoting over the summer. It's over 10 years since I last did Club World and I'm prepared for the worst (esp on the 777-200) but hey, worth a shot I reckon.

As pointed out by others, the outbound should be absolutely fine - its the return that might have some issues while checking in with BA (if you're unlucky to get a not so great agent!).

I'd just give myself a bit of time-buffer to work things out @ BA Checkin (even though their policy is to through check to oneworld partners..).

My problem though is the short connection in BKK on the HKG-BKK-LHR. BKK can involve very long walks and lines at security.
If you miss your BA flight you are not protected coz two different PNRs and should be treated as a no-show.

I wouldn't really worry. Call CX, give your BA PnR/e-tic numbers and ask them to cross reference the BA booking ("info segment"). Try the same with BA, so that their BKK folks know/expect you on the CX flight- no guarantees ever, but can't hurt.

BKK transit security wasn't all that bad the couple of times I've been through it. I guess you're on CX705+BA10? 80mins should be decent enough, barring serious delays on CX's part.

80 min (or 75 min depending on the day) is within the 75min MCT, so CX should check your bags through.
This is an early morning departure so you should be fine (average delay of 10min), unless technical or storm problems. Security lines can be quite long in the evening when pax connect to the night flights, but should be short at 10am.
SO you have a great chance of making it. it is just that the penalty is quite high in case of misconnect.

I've interlined through 3 different itineraries before with no issues. Showed them the printouts and they manually tagged me through. I even added an additional two bags along the way (through two itineraries) and I didn't get charged extra bag fees.

Resurrecting old but related thread - we are flying on BA HKG-LHR later this year but want to book a separate CX BKK-HKG.

Is it likely BKK CX staff wil agree to through check bags on separate tickets and what would FTers advise for MCT in HKG with/without having to manually recheck bags?

You shouldn't have a problem getting your bags checked through to BA.

You shouldn't have any issues, earlier today I checked a bag at BKK with CX to HKG and onward to LHR with VS (Virgin Atlantic), a non oneworld airline, both separate award tickets.
