CX F JFK Lounge

Hi All,

I have searched high and low for a good answer on this but couldn't find a clear answer.

I am flying CX F (via AsiaMiles) CX888 HKG YVF JFK HKG

Q1.) In YVR and JFK what is the best lounge i can use?
Q2.) Can i use any OneWorld Lounge? e.g. the new QF lounge in HKG (just to try it)

I am the type of flyer that will get to the airport with plenty of time to explore (see all the lounges) so i dont mind changing terminals (e.g. in JKF).

Thanks
:)

Q1.
YVR - none if you're transiting onwards to JFK.
JFK - BA Galleries at T7. Give that keyword a search or try browsing the Trip Reports / British Airways forums. No, you will not be able to hop around terminals at JFK.

Q2. Yes.

Welcome to flyertalk!

Pretty much what CanucksHKG said,
1. if you are continuing on the same flight to JFK then you will need to disembark the aircraft and wait for about 50min in a designated waiting area for the aircraft to be ready for flight to JFK. so you won't be able to use any of the lounges. The only lounge in JFK T7 is the BA Galleries. It's not bad, but not great either.

2. Yes, you will be able to use any of the OW lounges in HKG, although The Wing F is generally recommended

You get to use the crap BA "F" lounge at JFK which is really a fake shared lounge with cheap facilities (as the actual BA F pax use the "Concorde" lounge and you cannot).

You'll get to remain sat in a bleak little sterile area in YVR with some bottled water in a box for your pleasure, along with all else on the plane, for about 60 minutes (or you may get lucky like me in December and get stuck for 2 hrs 30 minutes there).

Then - the best part of all - you'll get to TRY to sleep on the YVR-JFK leg at all hours of the morning with the YVR-based crew chatting to each other in the galley up front the entire 5 hours, plus several of their breathren coming up from the back to chat with them as well. This is THE reason I try to avoid that routing whenever possible.

In December the soup was "lobster bisque" for BOTH the HKG-YVR and YVR-JFK leg, and they served smoked salmon as the starter on BOTH of these legs (also caviar ex-HKG) which was just a tad redundant (and who came up with that moronic concept?)! The food on the second leg is never really very good.

But enjoy!

Also check out the Bridge in HKG, which is Cathay's newest lounge. It does not have a separate first area, but I quite enjoyed the intimate design and the food. I would go to the Wing first, take in the amenities there and then head over to the Bridge if your flight departs from a gate near there.

I've taken the YVR-JFK flight numerous times and never experienced any of Flyingfox's concerns. The YVR based crews have always been quite professional and friendly.

It seems (from reading around here) that there are YVR based pilots and crew that come on for the second leg YVR-JFK-YVR.

Doesn't explain the double catering or repeat menu offerings however. :)

Even if access was granted to the main terminal in YVR, there is not a lot open during the hours of when CX 888/889 pass through the airport.

As a CX F pax you can use the BA club world more flight dining

I find the YVR crew CX's best outstation crew outside Asia, very friendly, polite and warm - unlike the LHR/LAX/SFO ones.

+1. ^ The YVR cabin crew are great. Even the ground staff especially the British manager. Everyone at YVR pretty much knows me very well which is great. Always friendly, cheerful, etc.

Cathay Boy actually hates the YVR crew, but loves the YYZ crew. I wonder why.

Cathay Boy - Sorry man I had to bring you up. Please forgive me. :D

Is there an SFO base now?

I don't think there's actually a base but I have heard about cabin crews based in SFO

Yep. Flew with an ISM and SP who were SFO-based recently. had them on both HKG - SFO, and SFO - HKG in same week.

What a witty comment! Spot on.

It makes no sense to offer the same soup and starter.

Whoever is doing the menus needs to be sorted.

yea, i can confirm there is a SFO base. It started years back around the time CX went to 2x daily to SFO. The SFO crew regularly fly CX873 and CX872 (night departures from both SFO and HKG, respectively), although sometimes sub in on CX870 and CX879 and have standby. There aren't too many, if you fly CX873/CX870 enough you'll end up knowing half the crew on those flights so comparatively speaking I think it's a small base. Seems like a close-knit group. At this point I configure my SFO schedules to ensure I do CX872/CX873. Not only do you get guaranteed new J class in 77H vs old J in 74K on CX870/CX879 s but service is excellent flying with the same FAs numerous times. takes service to a different level when you're seen as a regular passenger on their route. i've flown with the some FAs on those flights perhaps 5-6x now.

CX North American headquarters is also in SFO, fyi. never knew exactly why but maybe it has something to do with cargo given SFO doesn't have the same CX pax throughput as say JFK or LAX
